Tax investigation cover in Newport, included free with every fixed fee.

Tax investigation cover Newport owners usually pay a separate premium for is already inside our fee. If HMRC opens a check on your VAT return or your accounts, we handle the correspondence.

Most firms sell cover as a yearly add-on and bill the work on top. We cover it ourselves for every client, and every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. The fee we agree before we start does not move because a letter arrives.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that acts for Newport businesses on a fixed fee agreed before work starts. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, so HMRC enquiries are handled at no extra cost. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for.

Is your HMRC cover real? Three questions.

Answer by button, no email needed, and you will see where you stand.

Question 1 of 3

If HMRC wrote to you tomorrow, would your accountant deal with it at no extra cost?

What you get

HMRC enquiry cover at no extra cost

Every client has it, included in the fee. When a letter lands you ring us and we take it from there.

Know the fee before we start

We agree a fixed fee in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for.

A reply the same working day

If the full answer needs longer, we still come back that day and tell you when to expect it.

What Newport owners tell us before they call

Three things we hear most weeks from people who have had a letter.

  • “A brown envelope from HMRC turned up about my VAT return and I did not know who to ring.”

It sat on the counter for three weeks. The window to respond had nearly gone by the time anyone read it properly.

  • “My accountant charges a yearly premium for investigation cover and I never understood what I was buying.”

He paid it four years running without asking a question. Nobody ever walked him through what it did.

  • “I rang about a letter and got an invoice for the ten minute call.”

She stopped ringing after that. The next letter waited in a drawer until the penalty arrived.

  • What changes once we take it on

We are appointed as your agent, so HMRC post reaches us when it reaches you. We draft the reply, send the records they ask for and tell you what we have said. Nothing extra appears on your invoice for any of it.

Cover sold as a policy, next to cover included in the fee

Both arrangements are common; the difference is who carries the work and the bill.

Cover bought as a yearly add-on

A separate premium sits on top of your accountancy fees.

You renew every year whether or not HMRC ever writes.

A claim goes to the insurer and the work is billed against it.

A call about the letter can still appear on your invoice.

With Supreme Consultants

Cover is included for every client inside the fixed fee.

We reply to HMRC as your agent and keep you posted.

Calls, meetings and emails about it are never charged for.

Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Eight questions about your current set-up

Work down the list and count how many you can answer yes to.

  • Is your accountant authorised as your agent with HMRC?

Without it they cannot see your record or receive the post.

  • Would an HMRC letter be answered at no extra cost?

Ours is, because the cover sits inside the fee.

  • Do you know what your fee covers this year?

We put the figure and the scope in writing before any work starts.

  • Has anyone reviewed your last two tax returns?

Most first month reviews find something that was missed.

  • Are your VAT, payroll and accounts deadlines diarised?

We map the year ahead so you are not the one chasing us.

  • Can you ring with a small question without an invoice?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for here.

  • Are your bookkeeping records up to date this quarter?

Gaps in the records are what makes an HMRC check slow.

  • Did anyone charge you for Companies House ID verification?

We did it free for every existing client when the rule came in.

What we do when HMRC opens a check on you

The cover is included, and so is the work that comes with it.

All Services near you
Agent authorisation
We are appointed with HMRC and Companies House, so notices and letters reach us as well as you.
Replying to HMRC
We draft the response and send the records they have asked for, keeping the whole exchange in one place.
Calls and meetings
If HMRC want to speak to someone, we do it, so you are not explaining figures on your own.
Penalties and payments on account
We appeal penalties where there is a case and fix payments on account that were set too high.
Records brought up to date
Where filings are overdue or paperwork is missing, we rebuild the records before HMRC asks twice.

What a close look at your records can turn up

A Spar franchisee running a convenience shop came to us still paying full business rates through Covid. Cardiff Council required an application for retail rates relief and nobody had told him.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

£10,000recovered for a convenience shop franchisee
How it was found
We spotted it in the first meeting while going through his costs line by line.
What happened
He got the money back and his rates were corrected going forward.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

How switching to us works

Four steps, and the awkward conversation with your current accountant is not one of them.

  1. Before you join

    A free introductory chat

Tell us where things stand. We will be straight about whether we are the right fit, and if we cannot genuinely help we will say so.

  2. Week one

    Fee agreed and records moved

We complete your ID checks, agree your fixed fee in writing and send a clearance letter to your existing accountant so they hand your records over.

  3. First month

    Your HMRC position reviewed

We go through past accounts, returns and HMRC records. This is where missed reliefs, payments on account set too high and appealable penalties turn up.

  4. By ninety days

    A plan for paying yourself

We talk through salary against dividends so you keep as much as possible while staying compliant, and we tidy up your bookkeeping setup.

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not act for charities.

We cannot pick up a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation.

If none of those describe you, run the check and we will tell you what we would take on.

Tax investigation cover in Newport: questions people ask

How much does tax investigation cover cost in Newport?

Nothing on top. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, and the work that comes with an HMRC enquiry is covered by the same fixed fee you agreed before we started. There is no separate premium, no renewal and no charge for the calls and emails that go with it.

Can I switch accountants in Newport and keep cover from day one?

Yes. Cover applies to every client we act for, so it starts when your engagement does. We send the professional clearance letter to your current accountant ourselves, complete your ID checks, get authorised with HMRC and Companies House, and handle the handover of records. From your side it is mostly a matter of saying yes.

What happens if HMRC writes to me after I join?

You send us the letter and we take over the correspondence as your agent. We work out what HMRC is actually asking for, assemble the records, draft the reply and attend any meeting or call. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. No one can promise how HMRC will decide a case, and we will not.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

No. We work with the records you already keep, including spreadsheets and paper. If you want to move to Xero we migrate you across free of charge as part of switching, but it is your call and nothing about the cover depends on it. Plenty of clients carry on exactly as they were.

Is cover included for sole traders as well as limited companies?

Yes. Sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and community interest companies all get the same arrangement, because it is part of acting for you rather than a product we sell. We do not take on one-off self assessment or capital gains work, so this is for people we look after through the year.

Do I need to come to an office in Newport?

No. We are based at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, about twenty minutes from Newport, and we work remotely, in person, or a mix of the two. Most Newport clients send documents over and speak to us by phone. You are welcome at the office whenever you would rather sit down with us.
