VAT returns in Bristol, filed on time for a fixed fee

VAT returns Bristol owners ring us about are usually the overdue ones, or the ones where HMRC has written and the letter makes no sense. We are twenty minutes over the bridge in Cardiff Bay.

The worry with a Cardiff practice is that nobody picks up. You get a reply the same working day, and calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, and every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice at Titan House in Cardiff Bay that prepares and files VAT returns for businesses in Bristol and South Wales. The fee is fixed and agreed in writing before work starts, and tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

Is your VAT in good hands? Three questions.

Answer by button and you get the result on screen.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day when you ask about a VAT return?

What you get

HMRC enquiries dealt with at no extra cost

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client. Other firms sell it as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

Every quarter filed before the deadline

We map your VAT dates for the year and tell you what we need and when. You see the figure you owe before the filing goes in.

A fee you know before we start

The fee is agreed in writing first. Ring us when the till roll does not add up and it costs nothing.

What Bristol owners tell us about their VAT

These are the three things we hear most on a first call.

  • “HMRC has written to me about my VAT and I do not know what the letter means.”

The letter sat unanswered for three weeks and the deadline in it had already passed.

  • “My accountant files the return but never tells me what I owe until the money has to go.”

He had no warning of a quarter that was twice the usual size.

  • “Every phone call about the VAT ends up on an invoice, so I stopped calling.”

Two years of small questions went unasked, and the errors came out at year end.

  • What changes once we take it on

We go through your past returns and your HMRC record in the first month. You get your VAT dates mapped, the figure before it is due, and an answer the same working day when you ask. If HMRC opens an enquiry, we deal with it.

How this compares with your current arrangement

Plenty of accountants file VAT returns properly. The difference is what happens between the quarters.

The usual VAT arrangement

You hear from them when the return is due.

A ten minute phone call appears on the invoice.

Investigation cover is sold as an add-on each year.

The figure arrives the week the money has to go.

With Supreme Consultants

A reply the same working day, every time you ask.

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged.

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

Your VAT dates are mapped for the year ahead.

Eight questions about your VAT set-up

Answer these honestly before you decide whether to move.

  • Do you know your next VAT filing date without looking it up?

We map every date for the year and remind you before each one.

  • Are your records kept in software that meets Making Tax Digital?

We keep your records in cloud software and file from them directly.

  • Do you see the figure you owe before the return is filed?

We send you the number first so the money is never a surprise.

  • Has anyone checked whether your VAT scheme still suits the business?

We review the scheme when your trade or turnover changes.

  • Can you ring your accountant with a VAT question for free?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top of the fee.

  • Would somebody answer an HMRC VAT letter for you?

We deal with HMRC for you and tax investigation cover is included free.

  • Is your bookkeeping up to date rather than done in a rush each quarter?

We keep the books current so the return is a small job.

  • Do you know what you will pay for the whole year?

The fee is fixed and agreed in writing before we start.

What going through the HMRC record can turn up

A client came to us owing HMRC around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment, with no idea what the debts were for. We went through it line by line.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

How it was found
Much of the Self Assessment balance was payments on account based on estimates, so we filed his return early.
What happened
That part of the debt was cancelled, HMRC wrote off the interest on it, and he knew exactly what he owed.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Who we are not right for

VAT returns in Bristol: questions people ask

What do VAT returns in Bristol cost with Supreme Consultants?

You get a fixed fee agreed in writing before any work starts, based on the size of the business and how the records come to us. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top. Most VAT registered clients take bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, year-end accounts and corporation tax together on one fee.

Can you take over my VAT returns from my current accountant?

Yes. We write to your current accountant for your records, so you do not have to make that call. We complete your ID checks and get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House in week one. The handover carries no separate charge and the first month is free.

What happens if HMRC checks my VAT return?

We answer HMRC for you and you do not pay us extra, because tax investigation cover is included free for every client. Other firms sell it as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. We cannot promise an outcome on any individual case.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

No. If your records already sit in software that meets Making Tax Digital, we work in what you have. If you want to move to Xero, we do the migration free. We will tell you if your current set-up is making the quarterly return harder than it needs to be.

Are you close enough to Bristol to handle my VAT?

Yes. We are at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, a short run over the bridge, and Bristol is our neighbouring market. Most VAT work is done remotely, and you are welcome to come to the office. You get a reply the same working day either way.

Which businesses do you not take on?

We do not act for CIS construction subcontractors, we do not prepare charity accounts, and we cannot take on a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation. We also do not do one-off returns with nothing ongoing. If that is you, we will say so on the first reply rather than waste your time.
