VAT returns in Swansea, filed on time for a fixed fee

VAT returns in Swansea are what most shop, trade and takeaway owners ring us about first. Usually the quarter is nearly over and the bookkeeping behind it is still in a carrier bag.

The real worry is a letter from HMRC querying a figure you cannot explain. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, and every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. You know the fee before we start.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT registered accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that prepares and files VAT returns for Swansea businesses on a fixed fee agreed in advance. Tax investigation cover is included for every client. The practice acts for over 100 clients, more than 90 per cent of them across South Wales.

Is your VAT in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons, no email needed.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day?

What you get

HMRC cover included at no charge

Tax investigation cover comes with every client we act for. If HMRC opens a check on your VAT, we deal with them and you are not billed extra for it.

A fee agreed before we start

We put the fixed fee in writing first and it holds. Calls, emails and meetings never reach the invoice, so ring us the moment a figure looks wrong.

Your VAT quarters in the diary

We map every VAT date for the year ahead and tell you what we need and when. The return goes in with days to spare.

What Swansea owners tell us about their VAT

These are the three things we hear most often on a first call.

  • “I only find out what I owe HMRC in the week the VAT payment is due.”

The money had already gone on stock, so the bill came out of the overdraft.

  • “HMRC wrote about my VAT return and my accountant took over a week to come back.”

The reply window closed with nothing sent, which is how a query becomes a penalty.

  • “There is a bag of receipts behind the till and the quarter ends on Friday.”

The return went in on estimates, so VAT on real purchases was never claimed back.

  • What changes once we take your VAT on

Your records come into Xero and we reconcile as the quarter runs. We send you the figure and the payment date before anything is filed. When HMRC asks a question, we answer it.

How this compares with the usual arrangement

Plenty of firms do good work on this basis. Here is the difference in practice.

The usual VAT arrangement

Records go over after the quarter closes, then the return is built in a rush.

Work is quoted job by job, and a phone call can show up on the invoice.

An email reply takes several days when the firm is busy.

HMRC enquiry work is quoted separately, or cover is sold as an add-on.

With Supreme Consultants

We reconcile through the quarter, so the figure is known before the deadline.

One fixed fee agreed in writing first, with calls and meetings included.

A reply the same working day, including when the full answer needs longer.

Tax investigation cover is included free and we deal with HMRC ourselves.

Eight questions about your VAT set-up

A yes means that part is already covered.

  • Do you know your VAT figure before the filing date?

We send the number and the payment date before anything goes to HMRC.

  • Is your bookkeeping reconciled through the quarter?

Reconciling weekly is what stops a return being built on estimates.

  • Are purchase receipts captured as they come in?

Receipts that never reach the file are VAT you pay twice.

  • Does someone check your VAT scheme still suits the business?

Flat rate, cash accounting and standard VAT each suit a different trading pattern.

  • Would an HMRC letter be answered within the deadline on it?

We reply the same working day and handle the correspondence ourselves.

  • Is your software connected properly for Making Tax Digital?

We set up the digital link and file directly from your records.

  • Do you know what your VAT work will cost this year?

The fixed fee is agreed in writing before any work starts.

  • Can you ask a quick question without being invoiced?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

VAT returns in Swansea: questions people ask

How much do VAT returns in Swansea cost?

You pay a fixed monthly fee agreed in writing before any work starts. It is set on your turnover, transaction volume, payroll headcount and the state of your records, so we quote it after the introductory chat rather than guess. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top, and the fee does not move during the year.

How do I switch accountants for my VAT without an awkward conversation?

You do not have that conversation. We send the professional clearance letter to your current accountant and they pass the records to us directly. We complete your ID checks, get appointed as your HMRC agent, and handle Companies House identity verification at no charge where it is needed. The first month is free and Xero migration is free.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a VAT check?

You send us the letter and we deal with HMRC from there. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, so the work is not billed as an extra. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. The important thing is telling us early, because the deadline on the letter is real.

Do I have to change my bookkeeping software?

No. We work with what you already use, and the only requirement is that it keeps digital records and files under Making Tax Digital. If you want to move to Xero we migrate you across free of charge. If your records are on spreadsheets or paper, we will tell you honestly what needs to change.

Can you file VAT returns for a Swansea business remotely?

Yes. Over 90 per cent of our clients are across South Wales and plenty of them we look after entirely remotely, with records coming in through Xero. You can also meet us in person at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, or do a mix of the two. We reply the same working day either way.

My last few VAT returns were estimates. Can you fix that?

Yes. We rebuild records from bank statements, invoices and receipts, then correct the position with HMRC and bring overdue returns up to date. Where penalties have been charged, we look at whether they can be appealed. One caveat: we cannot help if HMRC has already opened an investigation before you come to us.
