Switching accountants in Port Talbot without having to call your old one

Switching accountants in Port Talbot usually stalls on one thing: nobody wants to ring the current firm and say they are leaving. We make that call for you, in writing, in week one.

Most owners stay put because they think the move will cost them a filing or a penalty. We ask your old accountant for the records, get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House, and map every deadline for the year ahead. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that moves Port Talbot businesses from their current accountant. It requests the records, registers as agent with HMRC and Companies House, and works on a fixed fee agreed in writing before it starts, with tax investigation cover included free.

Should you be switching accountants? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons; nothing is emailed anywhere.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day?

What you get when you switch to us

Tax investigation cover included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry we deal with it and you pay us nothing extra. Other firms sell this as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year, and every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

You never make the awkward call

We write to your current accountant for your records and chase them until they arrive. You carry on serving customers.

A fee you know before we start

Agreed in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top.

What Port Talbot owners tell us before they move

Three things come up again and again on the first call.

  • I only hear from my accountant once a year, and it is usually after the deadline has gone.

By then the penalty is already charged and the VAT return behind it has been guessed at.

  • Every phone call ends up on an invoice, so I stopped ringing and worked it out myself.

That is how a wrong VAT box or a director’s loan sits there for two years.

  • I got an HMRC bill for a few thousand pounds and nobody has explained what it is for.

Unexplained balances get paid in full when part of them can often be put right.

  • What changes once we take it on

You get a reply the same working day, and if the answer needs longer we still come back that day to say when. Your deadlines are mapped for the year ahead. When the next HMRC letter lands you send it to us and we answer it.

How your current arrangement compares with ours

Plenty of firms do good work; these are the differences owners tell us about.

A typical yearly arrangement

Contact once a year when the accounts are due

Calls and emails billed in time units

Investigation cover sold as an add-on

You chase the handover yourself

With Supreme Consultants

Eight questions to ask before you move

Run these over your current set-up and the answer is usually obvious.

  • Has a filing deadline been missed in the last two years?

One missed deadline means the penalty is already on your HMRC record.

  • Do you get a reply the same working day?

A week’s silence on a VAT query is a week you cannot invoice with confidence.

  • Was your last bill the figure you expected?

A fee agreed in writing first means no invoice you have to query.

  • Do you avoid ringing because of the cost?

Questions you never ask are the ones that turn into HMRC bills.

  • Are your books up to date this month?

Current records are what let anyone answer an HMRC check quickly.

  • Do you know what your last HMRC bill was for?

Unexplained balances are often estimates that can be put right.

  • Would your accountant handle an enquiry at no extra cost?

With us the cover is included free for every client.

  • Has anyone talked to you about how you pay yourself?

We cover salary and dividends within the first ninety days.

What we do for your handover

The move is a job of work and we do all of it.

All Services near you
The handover letter
We write to your current accountant for your records and chase until they arrive. There is no separate charge for it.
Agent authorisation
We register as your agent with HMRC and Companies House so the letters and the filings come to us.
A read of past returns
We check your last accounts, tax returns and HMRC statements for reliefs missed and penalties worth appealing.
Free move to Xero
If you want to change software we migrate you to Xero at no separate charge. Staying where you are is fine too.
Companies House ID checks
We do your director ID verification free. When the rule came in many accountants charged around £50 a check.

What a read of your old HMRC records can turn up

A client came to us owing HMRC around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment. He had no idea what the debts were for.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

£20,000of HMRC debt with nothing to explain it
How it was found
We went through every line and found much of the Self Assessment balance was payments on account based on estimates, so we filed his return early.
What happened
That part of the debt was cancelled, HMRC wrote off the interest charged on it, and he knew exactly what he owed.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

How switching to us works

Four stages, and you make one phone call at the start of it.

  1. Before you join

    Your fixed fee agreed

You answer a few questions on the site. Mudassir reads them and replies the same working day, and if we are a fit we agree your fixed fee in writing before any work starts.

  2. Week one

    We write to your accountant

We complete your ID checks and ask your current accountant for your records, so you do not have to make that call. HMRC and Companies House authorise us as your agent.

  3. First month

    Your past returns read

We go through your accounts, tax returns and HMRC records. Unclaimed reliefs, payments on account set too high and penalties worth appealing turn up here.

  4. By ninety days

    Every deadline mapped

We sit down with you on how you pay yourself and on your bookkeeping set-up. You know what is coming up and who to call.

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not do charity accounts.

We cannot pick up a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation.

If that is you we will say so on the first reply; everyone else should start the check.

Switching accountants in Port Talbot: questions people ask

How much does switching accountants in Port Talbot cost?

The handover itself carries no separate charge, and your first month is free. Your ongoing work is a fixed fee agreed in writing before anything starts, covering what you actually need, such as bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, accounts and corporation tax. Calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top.

Do I have to tell my current accountant I am leaving?

No. In week one we write to them, ask for your records and chase them until everything arrives. Most accountants hand the file over without any difficulty, because professional clearance is a routine request. You carry on running the business while that happens in the background.

What happens if HMRC writes to me after I switch?

You send us the letter and we deal with HMRC for you. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, so an enquiry does not bring an extra bill from us. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. One caveat: we cannot take on a business that is already late in an existing investigation.

Will I have to change my accounting software?

Only if you want to. We work with the cloud software you already use and keep your records up to date in it. If you would rather move to Xero we do the migration free. Either way your Making Tax Digital records stay in order through the change.

Can I switch accountants part way through the year?

Yes. Most Port Talbot clients move mid year, often after a VAT return or an HMRC letter that nobody explained. We pick up from where your records stop, map the remaining deadlines and file what is due. There is no need to wait for your year end.

Do I have to come to Cardiff Bay for meetings?

No. Over 90% of our clients are in South Wales and the work is done remotely, in person at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, or a mix. Port Talbot owners usually send paperwork across and ring when they need to. Phone us on 029 2264 0550, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
