Is your HMRC post in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons, there is no email to give.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day when HMRC writes?

What you get

Tax investigation cover included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you pay us nothing extra. Other firms sell this as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

Someone who answers the letter for you

HMRC and Companies House authorise us as your agent, so the post and the phone calls come to us. You get told in plain English what is being asked.

A reply the same working day

Ring us the morning the brown envelope arrives and the call costs nothing. If the answer needs longer, we still come back that day to say when.

What owners tell us when they call

These are the words people use when HMRC has written and nobody has explained it.

  • HMRC has written to me about my VAT and I do not know what the letter means.

The deadline on the letter ran while he waited for his accountant to call back.

  • I got a bill for about twenty thousand pounds and nobody has told me what it is for.

Part of it was estimated payments on account that should never have stood.

  • My accountant says he will look at it, and that was a week ago.

HMRC does not pause while an email sits unanswered, and interest keeps running.

  • What changes once we take it on

HMRC post comes to us as your agent and we answer it inside the deadline. We go back through your returns and your HMRC record to see what the figures are actually built on. You know what is owed and what is being disputed.

How this usually works elsewhere, and how it works with us

Plenty of firms handle enquiries well. The difference is what lands on the invoice afterwards.

The usual arrangement

Investigation cover sold as an add-on each year

Enquiry work billed by the hour on top

Calls and emails about the letter are chargeable

You chase for an answer while the deadline runs

With Supreme Consultants

Tax investigation cover included free for every client

A fixed fee agreed in writing before we start

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged

A reply the same working day, every time

Eight questions about how your HMRC post is handled

Answer each one yes or no about your current set-up.

  • Has HMRC written to you in the last twelve months?

Letters about VAT checks are landing on more shops and takeaways than they used to.

  • Did somebody explain the letter in plain English?

You should know what is being asked and by when, without reading it twice.

  • Is your accountant authorised as your agent with HMRC?

If not, HMRC talks to you and not to them.

  • Do you know what your HMRC balance is actually made of?

Estimated payments on account sit inside a lot of balances nobody has checked.

  • Are your VAT returns and records up to date?

Late or patchy records are what turns a short check into a long one.

  • Would enquiry work be charged on top of your usual fee?

With us it is not, because tax investigation cover is included free for clients.

  • Does a ten minute phone call end up on an invoice?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged here.

  • Have you ever had a penalty you thought was worth appealing?

We look at penalties on the way in, as part of going through your HMRC record.

That part of the debt was cancelled and HMRC wrote off the interest charged on it, and he knew exactly what he owed.

HMRC investigation help in Port Talbot: questions people ask

What does HMRC investigation help in Port Talbot cost?

For our clients it costs nothing extra, because tax investigation cover is included free with the fixed fee we agree in writing before any work starts. Other firms sell the same cover as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year. Calls, meetings and emails about your HMRC letter are never charged.

Can you take over from my current accountant?

Yes. We write to your current accountant for your records, so you do not have to make that call. We complete your ID checks, get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House, and the handover carries no separate charge. The first month is free, and so is a move to Xero if you want one.

What happens if HMRC opens a check into my business?

We deal with HMRC for you. The post and the calls come to us as your agent, we answer what has been asked inside the deadline, and you pay us nothing extra. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. One thing to say straight: we cannot take on a business that is already late in an investigation.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use and keep your records up to date in it. If you want to move to Xero we do the migration free, at a point in the year that suits you. Nobody has to switch systems in the middle of answering an HMRC letter.

Do I need to travel to Cardiff to get HMRC investigation help in Port Talbot?

No. We are based at Titan House in Cardiff Bay and most of the work is done remotely, by phone and email, with documents shared online. You are welcome to come to the office if you would rather sit down with us. Over 90% of our clients are in South Wales.

Why has HMRC written to my shop or takeaway?

HMRC does not always say why. Checks often follow late returns, VAT figures that look out of line with the trade, repayment claims, or records that do not tie back to the till. The letter itself tells you what information is wanted and by when, and that is where we start.
