Is your tax investigation cover real? Three questions.

Three buttons, no email address.

Question 1 of 3

If HMRC wrote to you tomorrow, would your accountant deal with it at no extra cost?

What you get

Cover included free for every client

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you pay us nothing extra.

A fixed fee that holds all year

The fee is agreed in writing before we start. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top.

An answer the same working day

Forward the HMRC letter and you hear back that day. If the answer needs longer, we say when to expect it.

What Caerphilly owners tell us before they call

These are the three things we hear most when an HMRC letter lands.

  • A letter came from HMRC about my VAT return and I do not know what they are asking for.

It sat unopened for three weeks. Replying late narrows what you can still put to HMRC.

  • My accountant wants a separate fee to handle the enquiry and I never budgeted for that.

The cover was an add-on he had declined two years earlier. The enquiry work was then billed by the hour.

  • I owe HMRC money across three taxes and nobody has explained what any of it is for.

He paid what the statement said. Part of it turned out to be estimates nobody had corrected.

  • What changes once we take it on

You send us the letter and we answer HMRC. We pull your filings and HMRC records together so the numbers you give back hold up. The work sits inside your fixed fee.

Cover bought as an add-on, and cover included

Both arrangements can work. The difference is who pays when the letter arrives.

Cover sold as a yearly add-on

An extra line at £300 to £1,000 a year

Renewed each year alongside the accounts fee

Enquiry work can sit outside the main fee

Updates come when the file is picked up

We deal with HMRC for you

No second bill while the enquiry runs

A reply the same working day

Eight questions about your current set-up

Answer these before your next VAT return is due.

  • Do you know whether you have investigation cover at all?

Many owners find out only when the enquiry letter arrives.

  • Is the cover charged to you as a separate yearly line?

Ours is included free for every client.

  • Would a ten minute phone call about an HMRC letter reach your invoice?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged here.

  • Is your fee for the year ahead agreed in writing?

We agree the fixed fee before any work starts.

  • Do you get a reply the same working day?

If the answer needs longer, we still come back that day to say when.

  • Have your VAT records been checked against what HMRC holds?

We compare your filings with HMRC’s records in the first month.

  • Do you know what each HMRC balance on your statement is for?

Estimated payments on account often sit in there uncorrected.

  • Has anyone appealed penalties that were worth appealing?

We look at that as part of going through your history.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not prepare charity accounts.

We cannot take on a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation.

If you are a trading business in Caerphilly outside those three, start the check and we will tell you the same working day.

Tax investigation cover in Caerphilly: questions people ask

What does tax investigation cover in Caerphilly cost with Supreme Consultants?

Nothing on top. It is included free for every client, whatever work we do for you. Your bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, accounts and tax sit on one fixed fee agreed in writing before we start, and calls, meetings and emails are never charged. Other firms sell cover as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

Can I switch accountants and still get tax investigation cover?

Yes. Every client gets the cover and the handover costs you nothing. We write to your current accountant for your records, so you do not have to make that call, and we complete the ID checks and the HMRC and Companies House authorisations. Your first month is free and moving to Xero is free if you want it.

What happens if HMRC writes to me about my VAT?

Forward it the day it arrives and you hear back that working day. We tell you what HMRC is asking for and what the deadline is, then we answer them ourselves and handle the correspondence. You pay us nothing extra for that work. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Do I have to change accounting software to join you?

No. If your books are in software that works, we carry on using it. If you would rather move to Xero, we do the migration free. We can also keep the bookkeeping in-house, so you send us the paperwork and we take it from there. Nobody has to learn a new system to join us.

Do you work with Caerphilly businesses or do I have to come to Cardiff?

Caerphilly is one of the towns we cover from our office at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, and over 90% of our clients are in South Wales. Most of the work happens remotely by email, phone and cloud software. You can also come in and sit down with us, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Will you take me on if HMRC has already opened an enquiry?

If the case is already late in an HMRC investigation, we will tell you straight that we are the wrong firm rather than take the fee. We also do not act for CIS construction subcontractors or prepare charity accounts. Any other trading business in South Wales, including sole traders, limited companies and CICs, is welcome.
