CIC accountants in Cardiff who keep your accounts and reports right

CIC accountants Cardiff directors come to us for one thing first: accounts and a community interest report that Companies House and the funder will both accept, filed when they are due.

Most boards get the accounts done and are then left to write the funder’s spend report themselves, usually in the week it is due. We do both, for a fixed fee agreed before we start. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, and every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that forms community interest companies and prepares CIC accounts, community interest reports and funder spend reports for CICs across South Wales. Fees are fixed and agreed before work starts. The founders run their own community interest company, LedgerUp CIC.

Is your CIC in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons, no email needed.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day?

What you get

Tax investigation cover at no extra charge

It is included free for every client we act for, and we deal with HMRC ourselves. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

The funder’s report ready on the day

We keep restricted and unrestricted income apart all year, so a spend report is a short job when the funder asks for it.

Accounts and community interest report together

Both go to Companies House on time, with the community benefit written in plain English your directors can read and sign.

What CIC directors tell us when they first call

Three things we hear most weeks from community interest companies in Cardiff.

  • “Our funder wants a report on how the grant was spent by Friday and I have not started it.”

The figures were never split by fund, so a weekend went on rebuilding them from bank statements.

  • “The accountant filed our accounts but nobody did the community interest report, so Companies House wrote to us.”

A late filing on the public record is the first thing a new funder sees when they check you.

  • “I emailed about a restricted fund six days ago and I am still waiting for an answer.”

The board made the spending decision without the answer, and it had to be unpicked at year end.

  • What changes once we take it on

Your bookkeeping is set up so each grant and contract sits in its own place from day one. Accounts, the community interest report and payroll go in the diary for the year ahead, so we chase them rather than you. When you ring with a question about a fund, you get an answer the same working day and no invoice for the call.

How a general practice and we differ on CIC work

Plenty of good accountants do company accounts well and see a CIC once a year.

A general practice doing your CIC accounts

Accounts filed, community interest report left with you

Grant income lumped in with trading income

Calls and emails billed by the unit

Tax investigation cover offered as an add-on

With Supreme Consultants

Accounts and community interest report prepared together

Each fund tracked separately through the year

Calls, meetings and emails never charged for

Tax investigation cover included free for every client

Eight questions about how your CIC is run

A yes to each one means that part is already covered.

  • Is each grant tracked separately in your bookkeeping?

Separate tracking turns a funder report into a short job.

  • Is your community interest report written before the deadline week?

Written early, it can be read and approved by the board in good time.

  • Do you know today what your accountant will charge this year?

A fee agreed in writing up front means no invoice you did not expect.

  • Can you ring your accountant with a small question for nothing?

Small questions asked early are usually where money gets saved.

  • Are directors paid through a payroll with auto-enrolment handled?

Payroll run properly keeps HMRC filings and pension duties in order.

  • Is your VAT position on grant and trading income settled?

Getting that wrong shows up later as an assessment you cannot fund.

  • Would somebody handle an HMRC letter for you at no extra cost?

Our tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

  • Are your Companies House filings and director details up to date?

Funders check the public record before they release money.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

How switching to us works

Four stages, and the awkward conversation with your current accountant is ours, not yours.

  1. Before you join

    A free introductory chat

Tell us where your CIC stands. If we cannot genuinely help, we will say so.

  2. Week one

    Fee agreed and records moved

We do your ID checks, put the fixed fee in writing, and send professional clearance to your existing accountant so they hand the records over.

  3. First month

    Past filings gone through properly

We read your previous accounts, community interest reports and HMRC records. This is where missed reliefs and appealable penalties turn up.

  4. By ninety days

    Every deadline in the diary

Accounts, the community interest report, VAT, payroll and corporation tax are mapped for the year, and your bookkeeping is set up fund by fund.

Who we are not right for

We do not take on construction subcontractors working under the Construction Industry Scheme.

We act for community interest companies rather than registered charities.

If HMRC is already well into an investigation, we are usually too late to change the outcome, and we will tell you that on the call.

If none of those describes you, run the check and we will tell you where your CIC stands.

CIC accountants Cardiff: questions people ask

How much do CIC accountants in Cardiff charge?

We work on a fixed monthly fee agreed in writing before any work starts, so you know the number in advance. It depends on your turnover, whether you are VAT registered, how many people you pay and how tidy the records are. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for. We quote after the introductory chat rather than guess.

Can I switch to you from our current accountant?

Yes, and we handle the handover. We send the professional clearance letter and collect your records, so you do not have to make that call. We get appointed as your agent with HMRC and Companies House, handle Companies House director ID verification at no charge where it is needed, and migrate you to Xero free if you want to move.

What happens if HMRC writes to our CIC?

Send the letter to us and we deal with HMRC directly. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, so there is no separate charge when a check lands. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. The sooner you forward the letter, the more we can do about it.

Do we have to change accounting software?

No. We work with the system you already use and will tell you honestly if it is fine as it is. If you want to move to Xero, we migrate you free as part of switching and set the tracking up so each grant and contract sits in its own place from the start.

Do you file the community interest report as well as the accounts?

Yes. We prepare the annual accounts and the community interest report together and file both at Companies House. The report is drafted in plain English, covering what the company did for the community and who benefited, and sent to your directors to read and approve before anything is submitted.

Can you set up a new CIC for us in Cardiff?

Yes. We handle the incorporation, the community interest statement and the registrations you need, including PAYE and VAT where they apply. One condition: we only form companies for clients who are engaging us as their accountants going forward, because setting a CIC up and walking away tends to cause problems in year one.
