Would you be covered if HMRC wrote tomorrow? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons; nothing is emailed anywhere.

Question 1 of 3

If HMRC opened an enquiry tomorrow, would your accountant deal with it at no extra cost?

What you get

Cover for an HMRC enquiry, included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you do not pay us extra. Other firms sell the same thing for £300 to £1,000 a year.

Somebody who reads the HMRC letter

Send it to us the day it lands. We tell you what HMRC is actually asking for and what we are doing about it.

A fixed fee that does not move

Agreed in writing before we start. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top, including the ones about HMRC.

What Swansea owners tell us before they move

These are the three we hear most when an HMRC letter is already on the desk.

  • I got an HMRC letter about my VAT and I do not know what it means.

Left in the drawer for three weeks, a letter like that turns into a penalty you then have to appeal.

  • Every phone call to my accountant ends up on an invoice the next month.

So the calls stop, and small problems reach HMRC before anyone has looked at them.

  • My accountant says the enquiry work is extra and he will quote once he sees the file.

You end up deciding how much defence you can afford while HMRC runs its own clock.

  • What changes once we take it on

We become your agent with HMRC, so the post and the online messages come to us as well. You forward the letter and we answer it. The cover is already included, so nothing new is quoted while the enquiry runs.

Cover sold yearly against cover included

Both arrangements exist across South Wales, and it is worth knowing which one you have.

Cover bought as a yearly add-on

A separate line on the renewal each year.

The policy pays some of the hours, and the rest is quoted.

Calls about the letter appear on the next invoice.

You chase a reply while HMRC waits for one.

With Supreme Consultants

Included free for every client we act for.

We deal with HMRC for you.

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged.

A reply the same working day.

Eight questions about where you stand with HMRC

Answer these honestly before the next VAT return goes in.

  • Is your accountant registered as your HMRC agent?

If not, HMRC post goes to you alone and can sit unopened.

  • Would an enquiry be charged as extra work?

Ask now, in writing, rather than after the letter lands.

  • Do you pay a separate yearly premium for cover?

Many Swansea owners do, at £300 to £1,000 a year.

  • Has anyone explained your last HMRC bill to you?

A bill nobody explained usually hides an estimate HMRC has made.

  • Are your VAT records kept in cloud software?

Making Tax Digital records make an HMRC check far shorter.

  • Do you know which VAT scheme you are on?

The wrong scheme is one of the first things a check picks up.

  • Are your payments on account based on real figures?

Estimates set too high are worth challenging before the next instalment.

  • Do you get a reply the same working day?

HMRC deadlines are short and a week of silence costs you most of one.

What we do when HMRC writes to you

The cover is part of a full set of accounts work, not a standalone product.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Tax investigation cover in Swansea: questions people ask

How much does tax investigation cover in Swansea cost with you?

Nothing extra. It is included free for every client we act for. Your accounts, VAT, payroll and tax work sits on one fixed fee agreed in writing before we start, and the cover sits inside that. Other firms sell it as a yearly add-on for £300 to £1,000. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top.

Can I switch to you from my current accountant in Swansea?

Yes, and you do not have to make the call. We write to your current accountant for your records and handle the professional clearance. We complete your ID checks, get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House, then map your deadlines. Most of it happens in the first week without you doing much at all.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a check?

Send us the letter the day it arrives. We read it, tell you in plain English what HMRC is asking for, and reply as your agent. We gather the records, deal with the correspondence and keep you told. There is no separate bill for that work. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Do I have to change accounting software to join you?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use. If you want to move to Xero we migrate you free, and if you would rather stay where you are, we keep the records there. What matters is that your VAT records meet Making Tax Digital rules, and we check that in the first month.

Do you take on businesses already in an HMRC investigation?

Not if the case is already late in the process. We told one business exactly that, because taking the file over near the end would not have helped them. If HMRC has only just written, or nothing has started, speak to us. Once you are a client the cover is included and we deal with HMRC for you.

Is tax investigation cover included for Swansea sole traders as well as limited companies?

Yes. Limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and community interest companies all get it. Our office is at Titan House in Cardiff Bay and we work with Swansea clients remotely, in person here, or a mix. Over 90% of our clients are in South Wales, so Welsh rules on things like business rates relief are familiar ground.
