Management accounts that show where your business stands each month

Management accounts are what owners ask us for when the year-end figures land nine months after the decision they needed them for.

Most owners we meet are running on the bank balance and a feel for how the week went. We prepare your figures monthly or quarterly, ring you to go through them, and agree the fee before any work starts. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT registered accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that prepares monthly and quarterly management accounts for owner-managed businesses across South Wales. The work is priced as a fixed fee agreed before it starts, calls and meetings are never billed, and tax investigation cover is included for every client.

Are your management accounts doing their job? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons; nothing to type and no email needed.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant send you figures more than once a year?

What you get

Your figures while they still matter

We close the period and send you the numbers within weeks. You decide on this quarter rather than on last year.

A fixed fee agreed before we start

You know the cost of the pack before any work begins. The call to talk it through is never on the invoice.

Tax investigation cover at no charge

Every client we look after has it included free. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

What owners tell us before they call

These are the three things we hear most often about figures that arrive too late.

  • “I only find out how the year went when the accounts turn up the following autumn.”

By then the pricing decision, the hire and the second site have all been made blind.

  • “I can see money in the bank but I have no idea how much of it is the VAT.”

Owners draw on it, then meet a VAT bill and a corporation tax bill in the same quarter.

  • “My funder wants a spend report by Friday and I cannot pull the figures together.”

A weekend lost to spreadsheets, and a report the funder has to send back for corrections.

  • What changes once we take it on

Your bookkeeping gets tidied so the figures mean something, then you get a pack every month or quarter. We ring you to walk through it in plain English. You go into the next decision knowing your margin, your cash and what is owed to HMRC.

How yearly accounts compare with monthly figures

Both are proper work; they answer different questions at different times.

Year-end accounts only

One set of figures, filed months after the year closed

Tax position confirmed when the bill is already due

Questions saved up for the annual meeting

Decisions made on the bank balance in between

With Supreme Consultants

A pack every month or quarter, with margin and cash set out

Tax put aside as you go, so the bill is expected

Calls, meetings and emails never charged for

A fixed fee agreed in writing before we start

Eight questions about your figures

Answer yes or no for your current set-up.

  • Do you see your sales and margin at least every quarter?

Yearly only means you learn about a bad margin once it has run for twelve months.

  • Is your bookkeeping up to date within a month of each period end?

Late bookkeeping makes any pack a guess rather than a figure.

  • Do you know how much of your bank balance is VAT and tax?

We set out what is owed so you only draw on what is yours.

  • Can you tell which site, product or client makes the money?

We split the figures so the weak part of the business is visible.

  • Could you hand a funder a spend report this week?

Grant reporting is far quicker when the underlying figures are already prepared.

  • Does anyone talk you through the numbers after they arrive?

We ring you and go through the pack line by line.

  • Do you know what your accountant will charge this year?

We agree the fee in writing before the work starts.

  • Would your accountant handle an HMRC check at no extra cost?

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for.

What we do for your management accounts

We ring you and talk through what moved and why. The call is never charged for.
Bookkeeping that feeds it

What monthly figures did for one retail client

A South Wales retailer came to us with one store and no idea which lines paid their way. We put monthly management accounts in place and went through them with the owner every month.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

One store to fiveover the time we have acted for the owner
How it was found
Monthly figures showed which products and which hours actually carried the shop.
What happened
The owner opened each new site on numbers rather than on a hunch, and knew the tax set aside before each VAT quarter.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

How getting started works

Four steps from the first conversation to your first pack.

  1. Before you join

    A straight answer on fit

Book a free chat and tell us where things stand. If we cannot genuinely help, we will say so.

  2. Week one

    Your fee agreed in writing

We complete your ID checks and agree the fixed fee. We write to your current accountant for the records so you do not have to.

  3. First month

A review of what is there

We go through past accounts, returns and HMRC records. One retailer was still paying full business rates through Covid because Cardiff Council required an application, and spotting it returned £10,000.

  4. By ninety days

Your first pack and a plan

You get your first set of figures and a call to go through them, plus how you pay yourself, salary against dividends.

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not act for charities.

We do not take on businesses already late in an HMRC investigation.

Everyone else is worth a few minutes on the check, and we will tell you plainly if we are the wrong firm.

Management accounts: questions people ask

How much do management accounts cost?

They are part of one fixed monthly fee agreed in writing before any work starts. What you pay depends on turnover, transaction volume, how often you want the pack and the state of the records. We quote after a free introductory chat rather than guessing, and calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top.

Can you prepare management accounts if I already have an accountant?

We take on the whole compliance package rather than the pack alone, so this usually means switching. We write to your current accountant for professional clearance and the records, get appointed as your agent with HMRC and Companies House, and handle Companies House ID verification free. From your side it is mostly saying yes.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a check?

Send us the letter and we deal with HMRC directly. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we look after, where plenty of firms sell it as an add-on. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. Bring us in early, because the sooner we see it the more we can do.

Do I have to change accounting software?

No. We work with what you already use, and we will tell you if the figures are coming out unreliable. If you do want to move to Xero, we migrate you free as part of switching and set the bookkeeping up so the monthly pack is quick to produce.

How are management accounts different from year-end accounts?

Year-end accounts are the statutory set filed with Companies House and HMRC after the year closes. Management accounts are prepared during the year for you, showing sales, margin, cash and the tax building up, so you can act while the quarter is still live rather than reading history.

How often should I get management accounts?

Monthly suits retail, hospitality and anywhere stock and staff costs move week to week. Quarterly works for steadier businesses and often lines up with the VAT return. We will suggest a frequency at the introductory chat based on how fast your decisions come round.
