Tax investigation cover in Barry, included free for every client

Tax investigation cover in Barry is usually sold to you as an add-on. We include it free for every business we look after, from the day you join us.

Other firms charge £300 to £1,000 a year for it. We carry the cost ourselves, so an HMRC enquiry does not turn into a second bill on top of your fee. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Would you be covered if HMRC wrote to you tomorrow? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons and you get your result on this page.

Question 1 of 3

If HMRC opened a check tomorrow, would your accountant deal with it at no extra cost?

What you get

Cover included free with your accounts

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you do not pay us extra.

Someone who picks up when the letter lands

Ring us the morning the envelope arrives and it costs nothing. We reply the same working day.

A fee that does not move

Your fixed fee is agreed in writing before we start. Calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top.

What Barry owners tell us before they call

These are the three things we hear most often about HMRC and cover.

  • “A brown envelope turned up about my VAT return and I still do not know what it is asking for.”

It sat on the shelf for three weeks and the deadline in the letter went past.

  • “My accountant said handling the enquiry would be quoted separately on top of the yearly fee.”

The owner put off replying to HMRC because he did not know what the reply would cost him.

  • “I owe HMRC across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment and nobody has told me what it is for.”

One client came to us owing around £20,000 with no breakdown of any of it.

  • What changes once we take it on

We go through every line with HMRC rather than guessing. On that £20,000 debt, much of the Self Assessment balance was payments on account based on estimates, so we filed the return early. That part was cancelled and HMRC wrote off the interest charged on it.

Cover bought as a policy, next to cover included with your accountant

Both arrangements get the work done. The difference is who pays and who decides.

Cover sold as a yearly add-on

A premium of £300 to £1,000 a year on top of the accountancy fee.

A claim is opened before the work on your enquiry begins.

Time spent on calls about the enquiry may be billed separately.

Your accountant does the work and the insurer decides what is paid for.

With Supreme Consultants

Cover is included free for every client we act for.

You ring us the day the HMRC letter arrives.

We deal with HMRC for you and send you no extra bill.

Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Eight questions about how you stand with HMRC

Answer these honestly before you decide whether your current arrangement holds up.

  • Have you had a letter from HMRC in the last twelve months?

Letters often arrive after a VAT return that looks different from the last one.

  • Do you know who would reply to it on your behalf?

If the answer is you, the enquiry is already costing you working days.

  • Was your fee for this year agreed in writing before the work started?

A fee set afterwards is a fee you cannot plan around.

  • Does your accountant charge you for a ten minute phone call?

Owners who get billed for calls stop ringing, and that is when things slip.

  • Are your VAT records kept in cloud software HMRC can accept?

Making Tax Digital records are the first thing asked for in a VAT check.

  • Do your receipts sit in a box until the year end?

A box is a slow answer when HMRC gives you thirty days.

  • Are you paying a separate yearly premium for investigation cover?

That is money you keep if your accountant includes the cover.

  • Could you say today what HMRC thinks you owe and why?

We pull your full HMRC record in the first month so you can.

What we do if HMRC opens an enquiry into your business

The work is the same whether the letter is about VAT, payroll or your accounts.

All Services near you
Reading the letter
We tell you in plain English what HMRC has asked for and what the date in the letter means.
Dealing with HMRC for you
We speak and write to HMRC as your agent. You do not sit on the phone to them.
Pulling the records together
We assemble the figures and the paperwork HMRC wants, and we check them before they go.
Checking what you owe
We go through every line of your HMRC record, including payments on account set on estimates.
Keeping it from happening again
Bookkeeping, VAT and payroll kept current, so the next return matches the records behind it.

What the free cover is worth when HMRC actually opens a file

Other firms in South Wales sell investigation cover as a separate yearly product. We carry it for every client instead, and we have dealt with every enquiry that has come our way.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

£300 to £1,000a year is what other firms charge for the cover we include free
How it was found
We decided the practice would carry the cost rather than sell it back to owners as a product.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not do charity accounts.

We cannot take on a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation.

If you are outside those three, start the check and we will come back the same working day.

Tax investigation cover in Barry: questions people ask

How much does tax investigation cover in Barry cost with you?

Nothing on top. The cover is included free for every client, and your accountancy work is on a fixed fee agreed in writing before we start. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged. Other firms sell investigation cover as a separate add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year, which is the cost you avoid by having it included.

Can I switch to you without ringing my current accountant?

Yes. We write to your current accountant for your records, so you do not have to make that call. We complete your ID checks and get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House in week one. The handover and your first month carry no separate charge.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a check?

You send us the letter and ring us, and the call costs nothing. We tell you what HMRC has asked for, we reply as your agent and we put the records together. You do not pay us extra for that work. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Do I have to change my accounting software to join you?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use. If you want to move to Xero we do the migration free, and we will say plainly whether the move is worth doing for a business your size. Your VAT records stay in a form HMRC accepts throughout.

Is tax investigation cover really included free for every client?

Yes. Every client of the practice has it, whether you are a limited company, a sole trader, a partnership or a community interest company in Barry. There is no premium, no separate policy to buy from us and no claim form to fill in before we act on your behalf.

Can you help if HMRC has been investigating me for months already?

No. We do not take on businesses that are already late in an HMRC investigation, because stepping in near the end rarely helps anyone. We say so straight rather than take the fee. If the enquiry is new or you have only just had the letter, start the check and tell us the date on it.
