Bookkeeping in Newport, kept up to date for a fixed fee

Bookkeeping Newport business owners ask us to take on is usually behind. Receipts in a box, a bank feed nobody has matched since spring, and a VAT return due in three weeks.

Most people leave it because the last accountant billed for every question and still replied a week later. We agree the fee in writing before we start, come back the same working day, and include tax investigation cover free for every client. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that does monthly bookkeeping for Newport businesses on a fixed fee agreed in advance. It acts for over 100 clients, most of them across South Wales, replies the same working day, and includes tax investigation cover free.

Is your bookkeeping in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons; there is nothing to type and no email needed.

Question 1 of 3

Does whoever does your books reply the same working day when you ask something?

What you get

Tax investigation cover at no extra cost

It is included free for every client we act for. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Books that are current every month

Your bank transactions are matched and your receipts filed monthly. When the VAT return falls due, the figures are already there.

Someone who reads your records properly

Going through one shop franchisee’s paperwork we found he was still paying full business rates through Covid, and recovered £10,000. Bookkeeping is where that sort of thing shows up.

What owners tell us before they move

These are the three things we hear most often from Newport businesses.

  • “I have got nine months of receipts in a carrier bag and a VAT return due on the seventh.”

He filed an estimate, then paid a surcharge when the real figures came in higher.

  • “My bookkeeper sends me a spreadsheet once a year and I cannot tell what the shop actually made.”

She turned down a second unit because she could not show a lender a month by month picture.

  • “I got charged for a ten minute phone call, so now I just do not ring.”

He sat on a question about staff wages for four months and the payroll correction cost more than the call.

  • What changes once we take it on

Your bank feed is matched every month and your receipts are filed as they come in. You see what the business made without waiting for year end. When you ring with a question, there is no invoice for it.

How this compares with a once a year bookkeeper

Plenty of Newport firms get by with annual write up work, and for some businesses that is enough.

A bookkeeper who writes the year up in one go

You find out what the year looked like months after it ended.

VAT returns are built from estimates and corrected later.

Questions in between are billed by the hour.

If HMRC writes, the cover is an extra you buy separately.

With Supreme Consultants

Your books are matched and filed every month.

VAT returns come off figures that are already reconciled.

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for.

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

Eight questions about how your books are kept

Answer these honestly and you will know whether your bookkeeping is doing its job.

  • Is your bank feed matched to the end of last month?

If not, your VAT return is being built from guesswork.

  • Can you tell what the business made last quarter without asking anyone?

Monthly bookkeeping means that figure is always available to you.

  • Are your purchase invoices stored where you could find one from March?

HMRC can ask for the paperwork behind any VAT claim.

  • Do you know what your bookkeeping will cost for the next twelve months?

A fixed fee agreed before we start means the number does not move.

  • Does anyone check your VAT figures before they are filed?

We reconcile first, then file, so corrections do not follow.

  • Is your payroll linked to the same records as your books?

Keeping them together stops wages being posted twice.

  • Would a lender accept the numbers you could produce this week?

Current books are what a second site or a loan application depends on.

  • If an HMRC letter arrived tomorrow, do you know who opens it?

We deal with it, and the cover for that is included free.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not act for charities.

We cannot take on a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation.

If none of those describe you, run the check and we will tell you what we would take on.

Bookkeeping Newport: questions people ask

How much does bookkeeping in Newport cost?

You pay one fixed monthly fee, agreed in writing before any work starts. What it comes to depends on your turnover, whether you are VAT registered, how many transactions you have, your payroll headcount and how tidy your records are. We quote it after the introductory chat rather than guess. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for.

Can you take over the bookkeeping from my current accountant?

Yes, and we do the awkward part. We send the professional clearance letter so your current accountant hands your records straight to us, get ourselves authorised with HMRC and Companies House, and handle Companies House ID verification free where it is needed. Switching also includes a free first month and free migration to Xero.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or checks my records?

You send us the letter and we deal with HMRC directly. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, so there is no separate product to buy and no extra invoice when a check starts. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. Bring us in early and we can do more.

Do I have to change accounting software?

No. We work with the system you already use if it suits the business. If you want to move to Xero we migrate you free, set up the bank feeds and the coding, and show you the few screens you actually need. The decision is yours, and we will say plainly which we think is better for you.

Do bookkeeping clients in Newport have to come to Cardiff Bay?

No. We work remotely, in person at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, or a mix of the two, whichever suits you. Most of our Newport clients send paperwork digitally and meet us a couple of times a year. We act for over 100 clients and more than 90 per cent of them are across South Wales.

Do you do my VAT return as well as the bookkeeping?

Yes. Most clients take bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, year end accounts and corporation tax together on one fixed monthly fee, because the VAT return is only as good as the books behind it. If you only want the bookkeeping for now, say so at the introductory chat and we will price that.
