VAT returns in Newport, filed on time for a fixed fee
VAT returns in Newport are what most owners ring us about first, usually the week the deadline lands. We do the bookkeeping behind the return, check the figures, file it, and tell you what you owe in good time.
The worry is not the return itself. It is the letter that comes back from HMRC asking about one box. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we look after, we pay for it ourselves, and every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.
In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT registered accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that prepares and files VAT returns for Newport businesses on a fixed fee agreed before work starts. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged. Tax investigation cover is included for every client.
Check we’re the right fit
A few questions about your business. Mudassir replies the same working day.
Thank you Mud, your help and support with my VAT return is greatly appreciated. Always a prompt response and my difficult VAT return was quickly submitted and resolved. Would definitely recommend.
Is your VAT in good hands? Three questions.
Answer by button, no email needed.
Question 1 of 3
Does your accountant reply the same working day when you ask about a VAT box?
Do you know your fee for the year ahead will not change?
If HMRC opened a VAT check tomorrow, would they deal with it at no extra cost?
That is a real gap, and VAT is the area where it shows up fastest. Take the check and we will tell you what we would do with your next quarter.
Start the checkYou are in a reasonable position on most of it. There is one piece worth talking through, so take the check and ask us about it.
Start the checkYou are well served and there is no reason to move. Read the guides if you want a second view on how your VAT is handled.

Tax investigation cover at no extra cost
Every client we look after is covered and we carry the cost of it. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.
A fixed fee agreed before we start
You know the figure in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never added to it later.
An answer the same working day
Ring us when a VAT box looks wrong and it costs nothing. If the full answer needs longer, we come back that day with when to expect it.
What Newport owners tell us before they move
Three things we hear most often when somebody calls us about their VAT.
I filed the return myself and now there is a letter from HMRC asking about one of the boxes.
Left alone, HMRC answers the question for you, and interest is added by the time the bill arrives.
My accountant invoices me for a ten minute phone call, so I stopped ringing him.
The small questions are where VAT gets expensive, and those are the ones that never get asked.
The receipts for the quarter are still in a box behind the till.
Input VAT nobody records is input VAT you end up paying twice.
What changes once we take it on
Your quarter is reconciled as it goes, so the figures are ready before the deadline, not in the last four days. You see what you owe with time to move money. When HMRC writes, you send us the letter and we deal with them.
How this compares with the usual VAT arrangement
Plenty of firms do good work on the return itself. The difference is what sits around it.
The usual VAT arrangement
You hear from them close to the filing date.
Queries and calls show up on the next invoice.
Investigation cover is offered as a paid add on.
The fee moves when the quarter turns out messy.
With Supreme Consultants
Every VAT deadline is diarised for the year ahead.
Calls, meetings and emails are never charged.
Investigation cover is included and we pay for it.
The fee is agreed in writing before we start.
Eight questions about your VAT set-up
Answer these honestly and you will know where the weak point is.
Is your bookkeeping reconciled before the quarter ends?
Figures built in the last four days are the ones HMRC queries.
Do you know what you owe before the payment date?
Knowing early is what lets you move money without borrowing.
Are purchase invoices kept digitally for every claim you make?
Input VAT without a record behind it is input VAT you lose.
Are you on the right VAT scheme for how you get paid?
Cash accounting and flat rate suit very different businesses.
Does somebody check the return before it is filed?
A second pair of eyes catches the box that was keyed wrong.
Can you ring your accountant without an invoice following?
If the call costs money, the question gets left.
Is tax investigation cover already in place for you?
An HMRC check takes hours of work that somebody has to pay for.
Do you know your fee for the next twelve months?
A fee agreed in writing up front does not move.
What we do for your VAT returns
The return is the last step, so we look after everything that feeds it.
All Services near you- Quarterly VAT returns
- Prepared, checked and filed under Making Tax Digital. You see the figure and approve it before it goes.
- Bookkeeping behind the return
- Sales, purchases and bank reconciled through the quarter so the numbers hold up. The box of receipts stops being a job for the last week.
- Registration and scheme advice
- Registering you when turnover gets close to the threshold, and choosing between standard, cash accounting and flat rate. Our first ever client needed VAT and an EORI number to import legally, and we set both up.
- HMRC letters and checks
- Send us the letter and we answer HMRC as your agent. Investigation cover is included for every client.
- Xero setup and migration
- Free migration to Xero when you switch, with bank feeds and VAT rates set up properly.
What knowing the Welsh rules found for a shop owner
A franchise convenience store owner in South Wales came to us still paying full business rates through Covid. Cardiff Council required an application for retail rates relief and nobody had told him.
Clients described by type. Names withheld.
- How it was found
- We spotted it in the first meeting while going through his costs with him.
- What happened
- The money came back to him and his rates were put right from then on.
Reviews from clients
Thank you Mud, your help and support with my VAT return is greatly appreciated. Always a prompt response and my difficult VAT return was quickly submitted and resolved. Would definitely recommend.
I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!
Friendly, nice 👌 , helpful and great all around
Difficult to describe as there are too many words that can be expressed for a wonderful accountant and their firm.
Definitely 🔝 and highly recommended in Wales 🏴 and throughout the UK for Accountancy and Tax Services

How switching to us works
Four steps, and most of the work is ours rather than yours.
- Before you join
A free introductory chat
Tell us where your VAT stands. We will be straight with you about whether we are the right fit.
- Week one
Fee agreed and handover sent
We complete your ID checks, agree your fixed fee in writing, and write to your current accountant for your records. You avoid that conversation.
- First month
Your HMRC record reviewed
We get authorised as your agent and go through your VAT account, past returns and any penalties sitting on it. Appealable penalties get appealed.
- By ninety days
Every deadline mapped
VAT, payroll, accounts and corporation tax are diarised for the year ahead. You are not the one chasing us.
Who we are not right for
We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.
We do not act for charities.
We do not take on a business that is already deep into an HMRC investigation.
If none of those is you, take the check and we will tell you what we would do with your next VAT quarter.
VAT returns in Newport: questions people ask
What does a VAT return in Newport cost?
A fixed fee agreed in writing before we start, based on your turnover, how many transactions you have and how tidy the records are. We quote it after a free introductory chat instead of guessing over the phone. Calls, meetings and emails are never added to it afterwards.
Can you take over VAT returns from my current accountant?
Yes. We send the professional clearance letter to your current accountant, so you avoid that conversation, and we get authorised as your agent with HMRC. Your VAT records come across directly between the two firms. The handover costs nothing and we pick up from whichever quarter you are in.
What happens if HMRC writes to me about my VAT return?
Send it to us the day it arrives. We are appointed as your agent, so we can see your VAT account and reply to HMRC directly. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we look after, and every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. There is no extra bill for dealing with it.
Do I have to change my bookkeeping software?
No. We work with whatever you already use, and most clients stay where they are. If you want to move to Xero, migration is free as part of switching and we set up the bank feeds and VAT rates ourselves, so the quarter adds up without anyone rekeying it.
Do you file VAT returns under Making Tax Digital?
Yes. Every VAT registered business files under Making Tax Digital, so the return goes to HMRC from digital records linked to the software. We keep the bookkeeping in that software, check the figures each quarter, and file once you have seen what you owe and approved it.
Do you do one-off VAT returns for Newport businesses?
We look after VAT through the year as part of a monthly arrangement with the bookkeeping, so we do not take on single returns in isolation. That is how the figures get checked before they go to HMRC, instead of being reconstructed from a box of receipts in the final week.
