Sole trader accountants in Cardiff who answer the phone and fix the fee

Sole trader accountants in Cardiff are what people usually start looking for in the week the self assessment deadline starts to feel close.

Most people who ring us have been doing the return themselves, or paying someone who files it in January and then goes quiet all year. We work with you through the year on a fixed fee agreed before we start. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that acts for sole traders across Cardiff and South Wales, handling bookkeeping, VAT and self assessment on a fixed fee agreed in advance. Is your sole trader tax in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons, no email needed.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day when you call or email?

What you get

Tax investigation cover at no extra cost

It is included free for every client we act for. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

A fee you know before we start

We agree it in writing after the first chat. Calls, meetings and emails are never added to it, so you ask the small questions instead of sitting on them.

Your tax figure known months early

We keep your records through the year, so January is a review rather than a search for receipts. You know what you owe in time to put it aside.

What sole traders tell us when they call

These are the three we hear most from self-employed people around Cardiff.

  • I only hear from my accountant in January, and then it is a rush to find everything.

The return went in on estimates and the bill landed with four weeks to pay it.

  • HMRC wrote to me about payments on account and nobody has explained what they are.

He paid more than he owed in July and left the overpayment sitting with HMRC for a year.

  • The receipts go in a box and I deal with them when I have to.

Three months of mileage and card payments never got claimed because the paperwork had gone.

  • What changes once we take it on

Your bookkeeping is kept through the year, so the return is built from real figures. Every deadline is diarised and we come to you before it, not after. When something lands from HMRC, you send it to us and we deal with it.

How a once-a-year return compares with what we do

Both get the return filed. They differ in what happens the other eleven months.

Eight questions about how your tax is handled now

Answer each one yes or no about your current set-up.

  • Do you know your tax bill before December?

Current bookkeeping means the figure is known months before it is due.

  • Has anyone checked your payments on account?

They are often set too high and can be reduced where your income has dropped.

  • Are your business bank payments recorded monthly?

Monthly recording is what stops claimable costs being forgotten.

  • Do you get a reply within a working day?

We come back the same working day, even when the full answer takes longer.

  • Is your fee fixed for the year ahead?

Ours is agreed in writing before any work starts.

  • Have you ever been invoiced for a phone call?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged for here.

  • Would someone handle an HMRC letter for you?

We are appointed as your agent and answer it on your behalf.

  • Are you registered for VAT and sure you should be?

We check your turnover against the threshold and tell you where you stand.

What we do for your sole trader accounts

One fixed fee covers the work and the questions that come with it.

All Services near you
Self assessment, filed early
We prepare and file your return from kept records rather than a January reconstruction. You know the figure in time to put the money aside.
Bookkeeping through the year
Your income and costs are recorded as they happen, so claimable expenses are claimed. We set you up on Xero free if you want to move.
VAT returns and deadlines
If you are registered we prepare and file each return and tell you what is due. If you are near the threshold we tell you before you cross it.
HMRC letters answered
We act as your agent, so a letter about payments on account or a penalty comes to us. Appealing it costs you nothing extra.

What a proper review of your records turns up

A Cardiff shop franchisee came to us still paying full business rates through Covid. Cardiff Council required an application for retail rates relief and nobody had told him.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not act for charities.

We do not take on businesses already late in an HMRC investigation.

If none of those describes you, the check is the quickest way to see where you stand.

Sole trader accountants in Cardiff: questions people ask

What does a sole trader accountant in Cardiff cost?

We work on a fixed monthly fee, agreed in writing after a free introductory chat and before any work starts. What sets it is your turnover, whether you are VAT registered, how many transactions you have and the state of your records. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top, so asking a question costs you nothing.

How do I switch from my current accountant?

You tell us to go ahead and we write to them for professional clearance and your records, so you never have to make that call. We complete your ID checks, get appointed as your agent with HMRC, and move your bookkeeping to Xero free of charge if you want to change software. Your first month is free.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a check?

Send it to us the day it arrives. We are registered as your agent, so we can see your HMRC record and respond on your behalf, and tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. The earlier you bring us in, the more we can do.

Do I have to change accounting software?

No. If you are already on software that works, we use it. If you are on spreadsheets or paper and want to move, we migrate you to Xero at no charge and set it up so your bank feed does most of the recording. Either way we show you what you need to do each month, which is usually very little.

Will you just do my tax return as a one-off job?

No. We do not take on one-off self assessment or capital gains returns. We look after sole traders through the year on a monthly basis, because that is what lets us keep the bookkeeping current, check your payments on account and tell you your figure early rather than typing up a return each January.

Do I need to come into your Cardiff office?

Only if you want to. We are at Titan House in Cardiff Bay and you are welcome to come in, and we also work fully remotely or as a mix of the two. More than nine in ten of our clients are across South Wales, from Cardiff and Newport to Swansea, Caerphilly, Port Talbot and Barry.
