HMRC investigation help in Swansea, where we deal with HMRC for you

HMRC investigation help Swansea business owners ask for usually starts with one letter about a VAT return or a set of accounts. We read it, tell you plainly what it means, and answer HMRC on your behalf.

Most firms sell tax investigation cover as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year. We include it free for every client, so the hours an enquiry takes are not billed on top of your fixed fee. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that handles HMRC enquiries for businesses in Swansea and across South Wales. Work is done on a fixed fee agreed before it starts, and tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

Would you be covered if HMRC wrote tomorrow? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons and you get a straight read on where you stand.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day?

What you get

Tax investigation cover included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you do not pay us extra. Other firms sell this as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

Someone who answers the letter

We go on record as your agent, reply to the officer and send the figures they ask for. You stop writing to HMRC yourself.

A fee that does not move

The fee is agreed in writing before we start. Calls, meetings and emails during an enquiry are never charged.

What owners tell us when HMRC gets in touch

These are the three things we hear most often on a first call from Swansea.

  • “HMRC has written about my VAT return and I do not understand what they are actually asking for.”

The deadline in the letter runs whether you reply or not. Late or partial answers widen the check.

  • “I sent my accountant the letter two weeks ago and I still have not heard back.”

HMRC chases, the owner panics, and the file gets answered in a rush.

  • “I owe HMRC money across three taxes and nobody has told me what the debt is for.”

Estimated payments on account sit in those balances and interest keeps running on them.

  • What changes once we take it on

We go on record as your agent and HMRC writes to us instead of you. We go through the figures line by line before we answer, then put the response in. You get told what we sent and what happens next.

How this works with us compared with an hourly firm

Plenty of good accountants charge by the hour, and an enquiry is where that shows.

Eight questions about how you would handle an HMRC letter

Say yes or no to each one and see where the gaps are.

  • Do you know who answers HMRC if a letter arrives on Monday?

Your agent should reply, not you.

  • Is your accountant authorised as your agent with HMRC?

Without that authorisation they cannot speak to the officer.

  • Would the enquiry hours be covered by your current fee?

Ask before the letter comes, not after.

  • Do your VAT records match your till or platform takings?

A VAT check starts with that comparison.

  • Can you explain every balance HMRC shows on your account?

Estimated payments on account hide inside those totals.

  • Have any penalties been appealed in the last four years?

Some penalties are worth appealing and nobody looks.

  • Are your bookkeeping records kept up to date in cloud software?

HMRC asks for records in weeks, not months.

  • Do you get a reply from your accountant the same working day?

Deadlines in HMRC letters are short.

What we do for your HMRC enquiry

We take the correspondence, the figures and the officer off your desk.

What going through an HMRC balance line by line can find

A client came to us owing HMRC around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment. He had no idea what the debts were for.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

£20,000of HMRC debt cut down, with the interest written off
How it was found
We went through every line, and much of the Self Assessment balance was payments on account based on estimates, so we filed his return early.
What happened
That part of the debt was cancelled, HMRC wrote off the interest charged on it, and he knew exactly what he owed.

From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not do charity accounts.

We do not take on businesses that are already late in an HMRC investigation.

If that is you we will say so on the first reply, so start the check and you will know either way the same working day.

HMRC investigation help in Swansea: questions people ask

What does HMRC investigation help in Swansea cost?

For our clients it costs nothing extra. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, so if HMRC opens an enquiry we deal with it and the hours are not billed on top. Your ongoing accounts and tax work is a fixed fee agreed in writing before we start, and calls, meetings and emails are never charged.

Can you take over from my current accountant while HMRC is asking questions?

Usually yes, and you do not have to make the call. We write to your current accountant for your records and get authorised as your agent with HMRC. The one case we turn down is a business already late in an HMRC investigation, because by then the file needs a specialist, and we will tell you that straight away.

What happens if HMRC writes to me about my VAT?

Send us the letter the day it arrives. We read it, explain what HMRC is asking for and check your records against the return before anything goes back. We reply to the officer as your agent and tell you what we sent. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use and keep your records up to date in it. If you want to move to Xero we do the migration free, but that is your choice and it is never a condition of working with us. During an enquiry we would not move anything mid-check.

Do I have to come to Cardiff for HMRC investigation help in Swansea?

No. Most of the work is done remotely by phone, email and shared records, and we reply the same working day. You are welcome at Titan House in Cardiff Bay if you would rather sit down with the letters in front of us. Over 90% of our clients are in South Wales.

How long does an HMRC enquiry take?

It depends on what HMRC is checking and how complete the records are. A single VAT return query can close in weeks. A wider check across several years takes longer, especially if books have to be rebuilt first. We tell you what stage it is at each time HMRC comes back to us.
