Accountants for small businesses across South Wales, on a fixed fee

Accountants for small businesses get judged on two things: whether the fee moves and whether anyone picks up the phone. We agree the fee in writing before we start, and we reply the same working day.

Most owners come to us because they only heard from their last accountant once a year, or because a ten-minute call turned up on the next invoice. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged here. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice at Titan House in Cardiff Bay. It does bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, year-end accounts and corporation tax for small businesses across South Wales on a fixed fee agreed in writing before work starts. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

Is your small business in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons and you get a straight read, with no email asked for.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day?

What you get

Tax investigation cover included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you pay us nothing extra. Other firms sell this as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

A fee agreed before we start

You see the figure in writing before any work begins. Ring us when the VAT return looks wrong and it costs nothing.

Every deadline mapped for the year

VAT quarters, payroll, the accounts and your corporation tax all sit on one timetable. You know what is coming and who to call.

What small business owners tell us when they ring

These are the three things we hear most in a first call.

  • I only hear from my accountant once a year, and then it is a rush.

Decisions get made with no numbers behind them, and reliefs are claimed too late to matter.

  • Every phone call seems to end up on an invoice, so I stopped calling.

The questions pile up until something goes wrong, which is the expensive way to run a business.

  • I got an HMRC bill nobody has explained to me and I do not know what it is for.

One client owed around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment with no idea what the debts were for.

  • What changes once we take it on

We go through your past accounts, tax returns and HMRC records in the first month. Unclaimed reliefs, payments on account set too high and penalties worth appealing turn up at that stage. Then you get one timetable for the year and a number you can ring for free.

How this compares with a once-a-year accountant

Plenty of firms work the way below, and it suits some owners.

A once-a-year accountant

You hear from them when the accounts are due.

The bill moves with the time spent.

A short phone call shows up on the next invoice.

Investigation cover is sold as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

With Supreme Consultants

Every deadline for the year is mapped in the first month.

The fee is agreed in writing before we start.

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged.

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

Eight questions about how your books are run

Answer yes or no for your current set-up.

  • Do you know what your accountant will charge you this year?

The figure should be agreed in writing before any work starts.

  • Do you get a reply the same working day?

If the answer needs longer, you should still hear that day when to expect it.

  • Are your bookkeeping records up to date this month?

Records kept current in cloud software stop the year-end scramble.

  • Do you know the date of your next VAT return?

Every VAT quarter should sit on a timetable you can see.

  • Would somebody deal with an HMRC letter for you at no extra cost?

Our tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

  • Has anyone shown you how to pay yourself from the business?

Salary and dividend planning is part of the ninety day conversation.

  • Is anyone checking the Welsh reliefs you have to apply for?

Councils in Wales give some reliefs only to businesses that apply.

  • Were your last accounts explained to you in plain English?

You should be able to say what the tax bill is for.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Accountants for small businesses: questions people ask

How much do accountants for small businesses charge?

We work on a fixed fee agreed in writing before any work starts, so the figure does not move during the year. It depends on what you need: bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, accounts and corporation tax are usually taken together. Calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top. Answer the questions on this page and we will quote you.

How do I switch to you from my current accountant?

You answer a few questions and we reply the same working day. In week one we complete your ID checks and write to your current accountant for your records, so you never have to make that call. HMRC and Companies House then authorise us as your agent. There is no separate charge for the handover.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a check?

Send us the letter and we tell you what it means in plain English, then we deal with HMRC for you. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, so an enquiry does not bring an extra bill from us. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. We cannot promise an outcome.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use and keep your records up to date in it. If you want to move to Xero we do the migration free. If your records are in spreadsheets or a carrier bag, we will tell you straight what needs to change and when.

What does an accountant for a small business actually do each year?

Bookkeeping month by month, VAT returns each quarter if you are registered, payroll and pensions each pay run, then year-end accounts and your corporation tax return. We map every one of those dates in your first month with us, including Self Assessment for directors and partners who are ongoing clients.

Are there small businesses you will not take on?

Yes. We do not act for CIS construction subcontractors or charities, and we cannot help a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation, because by then the damage is usually done. We also do not do one-off Self Assessment returns with nothing ongoing. We say so at the first call rather than later.
