Is your sole trader set-up in good hands? Three questions.
Answer with the buttons, and nobody asks for your email.
Question 1 of 3
Does your accountant reply the same working day?
Do you know your fee for the year will not change?
If HMRC wrote to you tomorrow, would they deal with it at no extra cost?
Three noes means you are carrying the deadlines and the HMRC post on your own. Start the check and Mudassir reads your answers and replies the same working day.
Start the checkThat is a reasonable position, and most sole traders sit here. The part worth a conversation is what happens when HMRC writes, because that is where the extra bills come from.
Start the checkYou are well served and there is no reason to move. Read the guides if you want to sense check your own Self Assessment before January.

Tax investigation cover included free
If HMRC opens an enquiry into your sole trade, we deal with it and you do not pay us extra. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.
A fixed fee agreed before we start
You see the figure in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top of it.
A reply the same working day
Ring us when an HMRC letter lands or a customer queries an invoice. If the answer needs longer, we still come back that day to say when.
What sole traders tell us when they first call
These are the three things we hear most from Bristol owners working for themselves.
I only hear from my accountant once a year, and that is when the bill arrives.
Nothing gets corrected in between, so the return is built from memory every January.
I rang with a ten minute question about my van and it turned up on the invoice.
He stopped ringing, and the questions that mattered went unasked until the return was due.
HMRC wants payments on account and nobody has explained where the figure came from.
Payments on account set from an estimate can be far too high, and your money sits with HMRC.
What changes once we take it on
Your records go into cloud software and we keep them up to date through the year. We map every deadline, file the return and tell you what to pay and when. You can ring about any of it without an invoice following.
How we compare with the arrangement most sole traders have
Plenty of accountants work the first way, and it suits some people.
The usual once a year arrangement
You see your accountant after the year end, and rarely before.
Phone calls and emails are billed by the minute.
The fee is quoted, then revised when the work turns out bigger.
Tax investigation cover is sold as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.
With Supreme Consultants
We reply the same working day, all year round.
Calls, meetings and emails are never charged.
The fee is agreed in writing before any work starts.
Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.
Eight questions about your own set-up
Answer these honestly and you will see where the gaps are.
Are your bank transactions reconciled past the end of last month?
If they are not, your return is being built from memory.
Do you know what you owe HMRC on 31 January?
Knowing the figure in autumn gives you months to put it aside.
Are your payments on account based on a filed return rather than an estimate?
An estimate left in place can leave thousands sitting with HMRC.
Do you keep business and personal spending in separate accounts?
Mixed accounts are the main reason sole trader records take so long to sort.
Are you tracking your turnover against the VAT registration threshold?
Crossing it without noticing turns into a backdated VAT bill.
Have you claimed mileage and use of home for the full year?
Both are easy to claim and easy to forget when the year is reconstructed late.
Would you know what to do if an HMRC letter arrived tomorrow?
If the answer is no, that is the call we want you to be able to make.
Is your bookkeeping in software that keeps Making Tax Digital records?
Spreadsheets and paper will get harder as the rules widen.

Reviews from clients
Thank you Mud, your help and support with my VAT return is greatly appreciated. Always a prompt response and my difficult VAT return was quickly submitted and resolved. Would definitely recommend.
I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!
Friendly, nice 👌 , helpful and great all around
Difficult to describe as there are too many words that can be expressed for a wonderful accountant and their firm.
Definitely 🔝 and highly recommended in Wales 🏴 and throughout the UK for Accountancy and Tax Services

Getting started
Four steps, from your first answers to the day you know your full year.
- Before you join
Your fee agreed in writing
You answer a few questions on the site. Mudassir reads them and replies the same working day, and if we are a fit we agree your fixed fee before any work starts.
- Week one
Records moved without the call
We complete your ID checks and write to your current accountant for your records. HMRC authorises us as your agent.
- First month
Old returns and HMRC records checked
We go through your past returns and HMRC records. This is where unclaimed reliefs, payments on account set too high and penalties worth appealing turn up.
- By ninety days
You know what is coming
We sit down with you on how you pay yourself and on your bookkeeping set-up. You know every date for the year ahead and who to call.
Who we are not right for
We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.
We do not do charity accounts.
We do not pick up cases that are already late in an HMRC investigation.
If none of those describes you, start the check and we will tell you straight either way.
Sole trader accountants Bristol: questions people ask
What do sole trader accountants in Bristol charge?
We work on a fixed fee agreed in writing before any work starts, so you know the figure before you commit. It covers the work we list for you, and calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top. The figure depends on your turnover, whether you are VAT registered and how your records arrive.
Can I switch to you if I already have an accountant in Bristol?
Yes, and you do not have to make the awkward call. We write to your current accountant for your records, complete your ID checks and get HMRC to authorise us as your agent. The handover carries no separate charge, and your first month is free while we get everything in place.
What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a check?
Send us the letter and we tell you what it means. If HMRC opens an enquiry we deal with it and you do not pay us extra, because tax investigation cover is included free for every client. One client owed around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment; we went through every line and much of it was cancelled. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won, which is past fact rather than a promise about your case.
Do I have to change my bookkeeping software?
No. We work with what you already use, whether that is cloud software, a spreadsheet or a folder of receipts. If you want to move to Xero we do the migration free. We will tell you plainly if your current records will struggle with Making Tax Digital, and then it is your call.
Do you act for sole traders in Bristol if you are based in Cardiff?
Yes. We are at Titan House in Cardiff Bay and Bristol is our neighbouring market over the bridge. Most work is done remotely, with calls and video when you need them, and you can come to the office if you would rather sit down with us. Phone and email answers come the same working day.
Will you do a one-off Self Assessment return for me?
We do Self Assessment for sole traders, directors and partners who are ongoing clients, so the bookkeeping and the return are handled together through the year. We do not take one-off returns or one-off capital gains returns with nothing ongoing behind them. Start the check and we will tell you quickly whether we are a fit.
