Is your tax investigation cover sorted? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons and we will tell you where you stand.

Question 1 of 3

If HMRC wrote to you tomorrow, would your accountant deal with it at no extra cost?

What you get

Cover included, with nothing extra to pay

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you do not pay us more. Other firms sell the same thing as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

A fee you agree before we start

The figure goes in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top, so ringing us about a letter costs nothing.

An answer the same working day

If the answer needs longer than a day, we still come back that day to tell you when to expect it.

What Bristol owners tell us before they move

These are the three things we hear most often on a first call.

  • I got a letter from HMRC about my VAT and I still do not know what it means.

The letter sat for three weeks while the owner waited for a call back. Deadlines in HMRC letters do not wait for an accountant to get round to it.

  • My accountant charges me an extra fee every year for tax investigation cover.

That is a renewal invoice for something we include free. The owner never asked what happens if HMRC actually writes.

  • I owe HMRC money and nobody has ever explained what the bill is for.

One client owed around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment with no idea why. Nobody had gone through it line by line.

  • What changes once we take it on

You get the fee in writing before we start and the deadlines for the year mapped out. When HMRC writes, you send it to us and we answer it. You can ring about the letter the same morning it lands and it costs nothing.

Cover sold as an add-on, and cover included

Both arrangements are honest. They cost you different things when the letter lands.

Cover sold as a yearly add-on

An annual renewal invoice for £300 to £1,000

The policy is a separate thing from your accounts fee

The work on the enquiry may be quoted on top

A phone call about the letter can appear on the next bill

One fixed fee agreed in writing before we start

We deal with HMRC for you and you pay us nothing extra

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged

Eight questions about your current set-up

Answer these honestly before you renew anything with your present accountant.

  • Are you paying a separate yearly fee for tax investigation cover?

With us it is included free for every client.

  • Is your accounts fee agreed in writing before the work starts?

Ours is, every year, before we touch anything.

  • Have you been billed for a phone call in the last twelve months?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged here.

  • Do you get a reply on the same working day?

If the answer needs longer we still come back that day to say when.

  • Is there an HMRC letter in a drawer you have not answered?

Send it to us and we will tell you what it means.

  • Do you know what every HMRC bill you have is actually for?

We go through the balances line by line in your first month.

  • Has anyone checked whether old penalties were worth appealing?

That is part of what we look at when we review your records.

  • Would your accountant speak to HMRC for you, or hand it back?

We deal with HMRC for you and you do not pay us extra.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Getting started

Four stages, and the cover is in place as part of being a client.

  1. Before you join

    Your fee agreed in writing

You answer a few questions on the site. Mudassir reads them and replies the same working day, and if we are a fit we agree your fixed fee before any work starts.

  2. Week one

    Records moved without the call

We complete your ID checks and write to your current accountant for your records. HMRC and Companies House authorise us as your agent.

  3. First month

Old returns and HMRC records checked

We go through your past accounts, tax returns and HMRC records. Unclaimed reliefs, payments on account set too high and penalties worth appealing turn up here.

  4. By ninety days

Every deadline mapped for the year

We sit down with you on how you pay yourself and on your bookkeeping. You know what is coming up and who to call.

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not do charity accounts.

We cannot take on a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation.

If you are outside those three, start the check and Mudassir will reply the same working day.

Tax investigation cover Bristol: questions people ask

How much does tax investigation cover in Bristol cost with Supreme Consultants?

Nothing extra. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, and it sits inside the fixed fee we agree in writing before any work starts. Other firms sell the same thing as a yearly add-on for £300 to £1,000. Calls, meetings and emails about an HMRC letter are never charged on top.

Can I switch accountants without ringing my current one?

Yes. We write to your current accountant for your records in week one, so you never have to make that call. We complete your ID checks, get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House, then review your past accounts and returns. There is no separate charge for the handover or the first month.

What happens if HMRC opens a check into my business?

You send us the letter and we take it from there. We tell you what HMRC is asking for, act as your agent, gather the records and answer the questions ourselves. You do not pay us extra for that work. Every HMRC investigation this practice has handled, we have won, though we never promise an outcome on any case.

Do I have to change my accounting software to join?

No. We work with cloud software and will keep you on what you already use if it does the job. If you want to move to Xero we do the migration free. The point is that your records are kept up to date, so if HMRC asks a question the answer is already in the file.

Is tax investigation cover in Bristol available to sole traders as well as limited companies?

Yes. Limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and community interest companies are all welcome, and the cover is included free for every client whatever the entity type. We work with Bristol businesses as the neighbouring market to South Wales, remotely, in person at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, or a mix of the two.

Can you help if HMRC is already investigating me?

If an investigation is already running and is near its end, we will tell you straight that we are not the right firm to pick it up. We have said that before to a business in that position. If the letter has only just arrived and nothing is late, start the check and we will tell you where you stand.
