HMRC investigation help in Bristol, with us dealing with HMRC for you

HMRC investigation help Bristol owners ask us for usually starts the same way. A letter lands about a VAT return or a set of accounts, and nobody can tell you what it actually means.

Other firms sell tax investigation cover as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year. We include it free for every client and answer HMRC as your agent. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice at Titan House in Cardiff Bay that handles HMRC enquiries and checks for Bristol and South Wales businesses on a fixed fee agreed before work starts. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, and the firm replies the same working day.

Is your HMRC post in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons and you get a straight read, with no email needed.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day when an HMRC letter arrives?

What you get

Tax investigation cover included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we deal with it and you do not pay us extra. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Someone who answers the letter

Send us the HMRC letter and we tell you what it means the same working day. We write back as your agent, so the post stops landing on you.

A fee you know before we start

The fee is agreed in writing first. Ring us the day a VAT check letter arrives and the call costs nothing.

What Bristol owners tell us when they call

These are the three calls we take most often about HMRC.

  • “HMRC has written about my VAT return and I do not know what the letter is asking for.”

The deadline on the letter runs while you wait for your accountant to call back. Missing it turns a check into a bigger enquiry.

  • “I owe HMRC money and nobody has ever explained what the bill is actually for.”

Owners pay estimates they were never entitled to be charged. Until someone reads the statement line by line, you are guessing.

  • “My accountant says the enquiry is extra work and wants a separate fee for it.”

That is the moment people stop asking questions. The enquiry then gets answered badly, or late.

  • What changes once we take it on

We become your agent with HMRC, so letters and calls come to us. We read your filing history and the figures behind the bill before we reply. You get told what we have sent and what HMRC is likely to ask next.

How this usually works elsewhere

Plenty of good firms handle enquiries. The difference is what happens to the invoice.

The usual arrangement

Investigation cover sold as a yearly add-on

Enquiry work billed by the hour on top

A reply when the file reaches the top of the pile

Phone calls appear on the next invoice

With Supreme Consultants

Tax investigation cover included free for every client

A fixed fee agreed in writing before we start

A reply the same working day, every time

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged

Eight questions about your HMRC position

Answer these honestly before the next letter arrives.

  • Is there an HMRC letter you have not replied to?

Deadlines on HMRC letters run whether anyone opens them or not.

  • Do you know what each line of your HMRC statement is for?

Estimated charges sit on statements for years until someone checks them.

  • Is your accountant authorised as your agent with HMRC?

If not, every letter and call comes to you first.

  • Are your VAT records kept in cloud software?

Making Tax Digital records make an HMRC VAT check far shorter.

  • Would an enquiry cost you extra in accountancy fees?

Our cover is included free for every client.

  • Have you ever appealed a penalty?

Some penalties are worth appealing and most owners never try.

  • Are your last three years of returns all filed?

Gaps in filing are what HMRC tends to open an enquiry on.

  • Do you know who to ring on the day a letter lands?

Our clients ring us and the call is free.

What we do for your HMRC enquiry

We take the correspondence off you and answer it properly.

What reading an HMRC statement line by line can do

A client came to us owing HMRC around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment. He had no idea what the debts were for.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

£20,000of HMRC debt across three taxes, with nothing explained
How it was found
We went through every line and found much of the Self Assessment balance was payments on account based on estimates, so we filed his return early.
What happened
That part of the debt was cancelled, HMRC wrote off the interest charged on it, and he knew exactly what he owed.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

HMRC investigation help in Bristol: questions people ask

What does HMRC investigation help in Bristol cost?

You get a fixed fee agreed in writing before any work starts, and calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top. For ongoing clients, tax investigation cover is included free, so an enquiry does not add to the fee. Other firms sell that cover as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

Can I switch to you while HMRC is already asking questions?

Yes, as long as the enquiry is not already near its end. We write to your current accountant for your records, so you do not have to make that call, and we complete your ID checks in week one. HMRC and Companies House then authorise us as your agent.

What happens if HMRC writes to me after I become a client?

Send us the letter and we tell you the same working day what it asks for. We reply to HMRC as your agent, gather the records they want and keep you updated on what we have sent. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won, though no outcome can be promised.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use and keep your records there. If you would rather move to Xero, we do the migration free. For a VAT check, what matters is that the records behind each return can be produced quickly.

Can a Cardiff practice handle an HMRC enquiry for a Bristol business?

Yes. HMRC enquiries are run by post, phone and portal, so the work is the same over the bridge. Over 90% of our clients are in South Wales and Bristol is our neighbouring market. You can work with us remotely or come to Titan House in Cardiff Bay.

What if HMRC has been investigating me for months already?

We do not take on businesses already late in an HMRC investigation, and we say so at first contact rather than take the fee. If that is where you are, you are better off with the adviser who has the file. Once it is closed, come back to us.
