Bookkeeping in Bristol, kept up to date for a fixed fee

Bookkeeping Bristol is work we do from Titan House in Cardiff Bay, a short run over the bridge. Your records go into cloud software and stay current month by month.

Most owners ring us when the bank feed has not been reconciled since spring and a VAT return is days away. We pick the records up, agree the fee in writing before we start, and include tax investigation cover free for every client.

Is your bookkeeping in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons; there is no email to give.

Question 1 of 3

Does your bookkeeper reply the same working day?

What you get

Tax investigation cover, included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry we deal with it and you pay us nothing extra. Other firms sell this as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

Books that are current every month

Bank feed reconciled, receipts filed and the VAT figure ready before the return is due.

A fee you know before we start

Agreed in writing. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top.

What owners tell us when they ring about bookkeeping

Three things we hear most from Bristol businesses.

  • “My bank feed has not been reconciled since March and the VAT return is due on Friday.”

The return went in on an estimate and the correction brought interest with it.

  • “I get an invoice every time I ring my bookkeeper, so I stopped ringing.”

A year of small questions went unasked, and the year-end threw up surprises.

  • “The receipts are in a carrier bag behind the till and nobody has touched them.”

Purchase VAT went unclaimed and the accounts took three weeks longer to finish.

  • What changes once we take the bookkeeping on

Your records go into cloud software and get worked monthly, not in a rush each quarter. You see the VAT figure before the deadline and know what the business actually made. Ring us when the till roll does not add up and it costs nothing.

How this compares with the usual arrangement

Plenty of Bristol bookkeepers do solid work; the difference is how you are billed and who answers HMRC.

A bookkeeper who bills by the hour

Records written up when there is time

A ten minute call shows up on the invoice

VAT and year-end sit with someone else

An HMRC letter is your problem to pass on

Eight questions about your bookkeeping set-up

Answer these before you decide whether anything needs to change.

  • Is your bank feed reconciled to last month?

If the last reconciliation was a quarter ago, the VAT figure is a guess.

  • Do you know your profit for the last three months?

Current books answer that in a minute.

  • Are purchase receipts captured within the month?

Receipts collected late mean purchase VAT left on the table.

  • Does anyone check the VAT return before it is filed?

A second pair of eyes catches the duplicated invoice before HMRC does.

  • Is your software kept up to Making Tax Digital rules?

Digital records and digital links are required for VAT returns.

  • Do you get an invoice for asking a question?

With us, calls, meetings and emails are never charged.

  • Could you hand over clean records if HMRC asked tomorrow?

That is the moment monthly bookkeeping pays for itself.

  • Do you know who files your year-end accounts and when?

We map every deadline for the year ahead in your first month.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Getting started

Four steps from your first answers to a year with every deadline mapped.

  1. Before you join

    Your fee agreed in writing

You answer a few questions on the site. Mudassir reads them and replies the same working day, and if we are a fit we agree your fixed fee before any work starts.

  2. Week one

    Records moved across for you

We complete your ID checks and write to your current accountant for your records. HMRC and Companies House authorise us as your agent.

  3. First month

Old books checked and brought current

We go through past accounts, tax returns and HMRC records. Unclaimed reliefs, payments on account set too high and penalties worth appealing turn up here.

  4. By ninety days

    A bookkeeping routine that holds

We sit down with you on how you pay yourself and on the bookkeeping set-up. You know what is coming up and who to call.

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not prepare charity accounts.

We turn down cases that are already late in an HMRC investigation, and we say so on the first call.

If you are a trading business in Bristol or South Wales, start the check and Mudassir replies the same working day.

Bookkeeping Bristol: questions people ask

What does bookkeeping in Bristol cost?

You get a fixed fee agreed in writing before any work starts, based on how many transactions you have, how your records arrive and what else you want us to file. It does not move during the year. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top, so asking us a question costs you nothing.

Can you take over from my current bookkeeper or accountant?

Yes. We write to them for your records so you do not have to make that call, complete your ID checks and get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House. The handover and the first month carry no separate charge, and we tell you when each stage is done.

What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a check?

Send us the letter and we answer HMRC for you. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, where other firms sell it as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. We cannot promise an outcome, and we never will.

Do I have to change my software?

No. If your current system works we carry on with it. If you would rather be on Xero we move you across free, bring the opening balances over and show you the two or three screens you actually use. You keep access to your own records either way.

Do you do bookkeeping for Bristol businesses remotely, or do we have to meet?

Both work. Most of the month to month bookkeeping happens remotely through cloud software and shared receipt capture. If you want to sit down, our office is at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, twenty minutes over the bridge, Monday to Friday nine to five. Plenty of clients mix the two.

Is there anything you will not take on?

Yes. We do not act for CIS construction subcontractors or charities, and we do not take on a business that is already late in an HMRC investigation. We also work on an ongoing basis rather than one-off returns. If we are the wrong firm we say so on the first call.
