Tax investigation cover in Port Talbot, included free for every client
Tax investigation cover in Port Talbot is usually sold to you as an extra every year. We include it free for every client, and we deal with HMRC ourselves.
Most owners only think about it the morning the brown envelope lands. By then the clock on the letter is already running. Other firms charge £300 to £1,000 a year for this cover. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.
In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice at Titan House in Cardiff Bay that acts for businesses in Port Talbot and across South Wales. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, the fee is fixed in writing before work starts, and calls and emails are never charged.
Check we’re the right fit
A few questions about your business. Mudassir replies the same working day.
Thank you Mud, your help and support with my VAT return is greatly appreciated. Always a prompt response and my difficult VAT return was quickly submitted and resolved. Would definitely recommend.
Is your tax investigation cover real? Three questions.
Answer with the buttons; nothing is emailed anywhere.
Question 1 of 3
If HMRC wrote to you tomorrow, would your accountant deal with it at no extra cost?
Do you know the fee for the year ahead will not change?
Does your accountant reply the same working day?
On all three counts you are carrying the risk yourself, and an HMRC letter would cost you money before anyone opened it. Start the check and we will tell you the same working day whether we can act for you.
Start the checkYou are in a reasonable position and someone is doing part of the job. The part that is missing is worth a ten minute conversation before the next HMRC letter arrives.
Start the checkThree yeses means you are well looked after and there is no reason to move. Read the guides if you want to keep an eye on what HMRC asks for.

HMRC enquiries dealt with at no extra cost
If HMRC opens an enquiry into your business, we answer the letters and speak to the officer. There is no add-on line on your fee for it.
A fee you agree before we start
The fee is set in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top.
A reply the same working day
Ring us the day the VAT return looks wrong and you hear back that day. If the answer needs longer, we come back to say when.
What Port Talbot owners tell us before they call
Three things we hear most weeks from business owners across South Wales.
HMRC has written to me about my VAT return and I do not know what the letter means.
His accountant took a week to reply. The letter gave him fourteen days to respond.
My accountant wants a separate fee to answer HMRC, on top of what I already pay each year.
That add-on runs from £300 to £1,000 a year at other firms. We cover it ourselves.
I owe HMRC around £20,000 and nobody can tell me what any of it is for.
We went through every line of Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment. Much of it was payments on account based on estimates.
What changes once we take it on
You get one person who reads the HMRC letter and tells you in plain English what it says. We register as your agent with HMRC, so the post and the phone calls come to us. If an enquiry opens, we handle it and your fee stays where it was.
Cover sold as an add-on compared with cover included
Plenty of good accountants run the add-on model, and it is a fair way to price the risk.
Cover sold as a yearly add-on
A separate premium each year, often £300 to £1,000.
You decide each renewal whether to pay for it.
The fee for answering HMRC sits outside your normal fee.
Calls about the letter may be billed by the hour.
With Supreme Consultants
Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.
Nothing to renew and nothing to tick on a form.
One fixed fee agreed in writing before we start.
Calls, meetings and emails about the letter are free.
Eight questions about how you stand with HMRC
Answer each one yes or no about your current set-up.
Do you know who answers an HMRC letter on your behalf?
If the answer is you, the cover you are paying for is not doing much.
Is anyone registered as your agent with HMRC?
Without an agent code, HMRC talks to you and nobody else.
Are your VAT returns filed from records kept up to date each month?
A VAT check is far quicker when the quarter is already reconciled.
Do you know what you are paying for investigation cover this year?
Many owners find the premium buried in a renewal invoice.
Would a call about an HMRC letter appear on your next bill?
With us, calls, meetings and emails are never charged.
Have your payments on account been checked against real figures?
Estimated payments on account build debts that were never owed.
Has anyone looked at whether past penalties could be appealed?
We appealed the penalties for a retail client whose previous accountant had died, and they were cancelled.
Does your accountant reply on the day you write?
If the answer needs longer, we still come back that day to say when.
What we do for your tax investigation cover
The cover is not a policy document; it is us doing the work when HMRC asks.

- We tell you in plain English what HMRC has asked for and what the deadline on the letter actually means.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Tax investigation cover Port Talbot: questions people ask
How much does tax investigation cover in Port Talbot cost with Supreme Consultants?
Nothing extra. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, and it is part of one fixed fee agreed in writing before any work starts. Other firms sell the same thing as an annual add-on costing £300 to £1,000 a year. Calls, meetings and emails about an HMRC letter are never charged either.
Can I switch to you from my current accountant in Port Talbot?
Yes, and you do not have to make the awkward call. In week one we complete your ID checks and write to your current accountant for your records. HMRC and Companies House then authorise us as your agent. The handover, the first month and Companies House ID verification carry no separate charge.
What happens if HMRC writes to me or opens a VAT check?
Send us the letter the day it arrives. We read it, tell you what HMRC is asking for, and reply as your agent. We gather the records, deal with the officer and keep you updated. You pay us nothing on top. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won, though no accountant can predict an outcome.
Do I have to change my accounting software to work with you?
No. We work with the cloud software you already use and keep your records up to date in it. If you want to move to Xero, we handle the migration and there is no separate charge for it. The decision is yours, and nothing changes on the day you join unless you ask.
Can you help if HMRC has already been investigating my business for months?
No, and we will say so plainly at the first contact. We do not take on businesses already late in an HMRC investigation, because we cannot do a proper job starting halfway through. We also do not act for CIS construction subcontractors or charities. Everyone else in Port Talbot is welcome to start the check.
Do I need to come to Cardiff, or can you act for a Port Talbot business remotely?
Most of the work is done remotely, by phone, email and cloud software. You can also meet us at Titan House in Cardiff Bay if you would rather sit down with the paperwork. We act for businesses across South Wales, from Cardiff and Newport through Swansea, Barry and Port Talbot.
