VAT returns in Barry, filed on time for a fixed fee

VAT returns in Barry are what most owners first ring us about, usually a week before the quarter is due. We take the records, check the figures and file the return.

The worry is not the return itself. It is the letter that lands afterwards asking HMRC’s questions about your figures. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, so if HMRC opens an enquiry we deal with it and you pay us nothing extra.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice at Titan House in Cardiff Bay that prepares and files VAT returns for businesses in Barry and across South Wales on a fixed fee agreed in writing before work starts, with tax investigation cover included free for every client.

Is your VAT in good hands? Three questions.

Answer with the buttons and you get a straight read, with no email asked for.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day when you ask about a VAT return?

What you get

Tax investigation cover included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry into your VAT we deal with it and you pay us nothing extra. Other firms sell this as an add-on for £300 to £1,000 a year.

You know the fee before we start

The fee is agreed in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top.

An answer the same working day

Ring us when the till figures and the bank do not match. If the answer takes longer, we come back that day with a time.

What owners tell us when they call

Three things we hear most often from Barry businesses in the week before a VAT quarter is due.

  • “HMRC has written to me about my VAT return and I do not know what the letter means.”

The letter sat unanswered for two weeks while he waited for his accountant to call back.

  • “I got a VAT bill that was bigger than I expected and nobody explained where it came from.”

He paid it rather than query it, because asking the question meant another invoice.

  • “The bank feed is months behind and the return is due on Friday.”

The return went in on estimates, which is exactly what HMRC looks at later.

  • What changes once we take it on

Your records are kept up to date in cloud software through the quarter, so the return is a check rather than a scramble. We file it and tell you what you owe and when. If HMRC asks a question about it, we answer them.

How this compares with the usual arrangement

Most Barry owners we meet are with a perfectly competent firm that works a different way.

A typical quarterly VAT arrangement

Records come in as a bag or a folder near the deadline.

Phone calls and queries are billed by the hour.

Investigation cover is offered as a yearly add-on.

You hear back within a few working days.

With Supreme Consultants

Records are kept current in cloud software through the quarter.

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged.

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

A reply the same working day, every time.

Eight questions about your VAT set-up

Answer these honestly before your next quarter closes.

  • Are your sales records kept digitally under Making Tax Digital?

HMRC expects a digital link from your records to the return.

  • Do you know which VAT scheme you are on and why?

The wrong scheme costs real money on a shop or takeaway.

  • Is your bank reconciled up to the end of last quarter?

An unreconciled bank means the return is a guess.

  • Do you keep purchase invoices for every input you claim?

HMRC asks for these first in a VAT check.

  • Has anyone checked your takings against your card machine reports?

A gap between the two is the most common trigger for questions.

  • Do you know your VAT payment date as well as your filing date?

Late payment carries its own penalty, separate from late filing.

  • Would somebody answer an HMRC VAT letter for you this week?

Letters have a deadline printed on them and it is short.

  • Is your VAT fee for the year already agreed in writing?

If it is not, the bill can move after the work is done.

VAT returns in Barry: questions people ask

How much do VAT returns in Barry cost?

We agree a fixed fee in writing before any work starts, based on how many transactions you have and what else you want us to do. Most VAT registered businesses take bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, year-end accounts and corporation tax together on one fee. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top.

Can you take over my VAT returns from my current accountant?

Yes. We write to your current accountant for your records, so you do not have to make that call. We complete your ID checks, get authorised as your agent with HMRC, and pick up from the quarter you tell us to. The handover carries no separate charge.

What happens if HMRC writes to me about my VAT?

Send us the letter and we answer HMRC for you. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, so an enquiry does not bring an extra bill from us. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. We cannot take on a business already late in an investigation.

Do I have to change my accounting software?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use, as long as it keeps the digital records Making Tax Digital requires. If you would rather move to Xero, we migrate you free. We will tell you plainly if your current set-up will not meet the HMRC rules.

Do I need to come to Cardiff Bay or do you visit Barry?

Either works. We are at Titan House in Cardiff Bay, about twenty minutes from Barry, and you are welcome to come in. Most VAT work is done remotely with records in cloud software, and plenty of clients mix the two. Phone and email cost you nothing.

How quickly will you reply if I have a VAT question?

The same working day. If the answer needs more digging, we still come back that day to tell you when to expect it. We are on the phone Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 029 2264 0550, and there is no charge for the call.
