Is it time to switch accountants? Three questions.

Answer by button and you get a straight read on your current set-up.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day?

What you get when you move to us

Tax investigation cover included free

If HMRC opens an enquiry we deal with it and you do not pay us extra. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

A fixed fee agreed before we start

You see the fee in writing before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top, so ringing us about an HMRC letter costs nothing.

Every deadline mapped for the year

We read your past returns and your HMRC record, then tell you what is due and when. You know where you stand before the next VAT return lands.

What owners tell us before they switch

These are the three things we hear most from Caerphilly business owners on the first call.

  • “I only hear from my accountant once a year, and then it is a bill and a signature request.”

Reliefs get missed and payments on account stay too high when nobody looks at the figures between filings.

  • “Every phone call ends up on an invoice, so I stopped ringing and guessed instead.”

Guessing on VAT or on how you pay yourself costs far more than the call ever would have.

  • “HMRC sent me a bill and nobody has explained what it is for.”

One client carried around £20,000 of HMRC debt for months because nobody had broken it down line by line.

  • What changes once we take it on

We write to your current accountant, get your records and take over as your agent with HMRC and Companies House. Your fee is fixed in writing and calls are free. When a letter arrives you send it to us the same day.

How the usual arrangement compares with ours

Plenty of accountants do good work on this basis; it just leaves you on your own between filings.

The usual once-a-year arrangement

You hear from them at year end

The fee moves with the time spent

Calls and emails go on the invoice

Investigation cover sold as an add-on

With Supreme Consultants

A reply the same working day

A fixed fee agreed in writing first

Calls, meetings and emails are free

Tax investigation cover included free

Eight questions about your current set-up

A no to two or more of these is usually the point people move.

  • Do you know your accountant’s fee for this year?

Our fee is agreed in writing before we start.

  • Can you ring them without it reaching an invoice?

Calls, meetings and emails are never charged here.

  • Do you get a reply the same working day?

If the answer needs longer, we still come back that day to say when.

  • Has anyone explained your last HMRC bill to you?

We break the balance down line by line and tell you what each part is.

  • Would they deal with an HMRC enquiry at no extra cost?

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client.

  • Are your bookkeeping records up to date this month?

We keep records current in cloud software rather than at year end.

  • Did they tell you about Welsh reliefs you have to apply for?

We found £10,000 of business rates relief for a Spar franchise owner in a first meeting.

  • Do you have every deadline for the year written down?

We map them in your first month and tell you what is due when.

What we do for your handover

The move is work we do, not a list we hand you.

All Services near you
We write the handover letter
We contact your current accountant for your records and the information we need. You do not have to make that call.
Agent authorisation set up
HMRC and Companies House authorise us to act for you, so letters and filings come to us.
Your past filings reviewed
We read your accounts, returns and HMRC record from previous years and tell you plainly what we find.
Free move to Xero
If you want to change software we do the migration free. If you are happy where you are, we work with what you have.
Companies House ID verification
We do the checks free for clients. When the rule came in many accountants charged around £50 a check.

What we find when we read a new client’s HMRC record

A client came to us owing HMRC around £20,000 across Corporation Tax, VAT and Self Assessment. He had no idea what the debts were for.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

£20,000of HMRC debt with no explanation attached to it
How it was found
We went through every line and found much of the Self Assessment balance was payments on account based on estimates, so we filed his return early.
What happened
That part of the debt was cancelled, HMRC wrote off the interest charged on it, and he knew exactly what he owed.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

Who we are not right for

We do not take on CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not do charity accounts.

We cannot take on a business already late in an HMRC investigation.

If that is you, say so in the check and we will tell you straight the same working day.

Switching accountants in Caerphilly: questions people ask

What does switching accountants in Caerphilly cost?

We agree a fixed fee in writing before any work starts, based on what your business actually needs each month. Calls, meetings and emails are never charged on top. The handover itself carries no separate charge and your first month with us is free, so you are not paying twice while records move across.

How do I switch accountants if I have not told my current one yet?

You do not have to make that call. Once you have signed up we write to your current accountant for your records and the information we need. Most firms hand everything over without a problem. Meanwhile we complete your ID checks and get authorised as your agent with HMRC and Companies House.

What happens if HMRC writes to me after I switch?

Send the letter to us the day it arrives. We read it, tell you in plain English what it means and reply to HMRC for you. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client, so an enquiry does not bring an extra bill from us. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

Do I have to change accounting software when I switch?

No. We work with the cloud software you already use. If you want to move to Xero we do the migration free of charge. If your records are in spreadsheets or a box of receipts, we take the paperwork as well and get it into order in the first month.

Can I switch accountants in the middle of my financial year?

Yes, and most people do. We pick up from your last filed accounts and whatever your current accountant hands over. If a VAT return or a payroll run falls due in the next few weeks, tell us at the start and we work to that date first.

Are there businesses you will not take on?

Yes. We do not act for CIS construction subcontractors or charities, and we cannot help a business already late in an HMRC investigation, because at that stage the right help is a specialist, not a new accountant. Trading limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and CICs across Caerphilly are all welcome.
